What I say, as someone who uses and teaches others to use statistics as my job, is that your are looking at the wrong sampling frame. Because the helmet only protects the head you would need to know the proportion of riders who died from a head injury for those wearing helmets and those not wearing helmets. Then you can perform a statistically valid 2-proportion test to determine with confidence whether wearing a helmet works to reduce head trauma deaths. Hell, I'd throw in broken necks as cause of death too just to be able to answer the objection of those who hypothesize that wearing a helmet can break your neck in a crash.

Yeah, I put my nerd hat on this morning.

I know that. It was just an easy way to throw a wrench into the works. It's a genuine quote from the CDC,not something I made up.

Just a footnote: The rider died a day after his accident. So sorry to hear that.

atgatt/harley guys

i'm an extremist. i wear full aerostich transit armored leathers on the street year round.
changing my street boots from alpine stars scouts ( great boots ) to sidi crossfires! wear schuberth helmet. orange icon vest over transit jacket. armored gloves year round.
goofy? probably! safe in an off? hope so. worth it to me to take 30 minutes to put on gear and do safety check on machine.
i am always full of wonderment at harley guys in no/skull helmet, white tee, leather vest, jeans, no gloves, terminator sun glasses, and no boots.

to me i gear up for my ride. if i'm just gonna cruise freeway i dress light. if i'm going twisty, i put on better gear, if i'm at the track i'm fully geared, so i dress for the risk. doesn't matter what bike you're on, but on a harley, the "risk" level of riding you're doing is generally, really low. not saying harleys cant go hit twisties, we've even had em at our track days, but, usually, they don't do much "dangerous" riding so, i dont fault em for it. i'm guilty as they are. the riders who are into the look, well, their priorities are a bit twisted but they'll figure it out eventually. i rode harleys/cruisers for 5 years the same way btw

after a long hot track day, it was time to cruise home
