St. X disappeared over the Med flying a P38 on recon. (Shufti)

St X was of the best writers ever. There's a little placque in old Quebec showing that he stopped there.

Good old Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, you mean? We studied "Le Petit Prince" in school.

"The motorcycle, being poorly designed for both flight and marine operation, sustained significant external and internal damage," police noted.

What a terrifying experience it must have been to have to put it down over the open ocean. :(

I'd hope to show you the pix. They've recently discovered a recon P38 that they assume was on the mission. St X pioneered the South American mail routes, and was often blown far out over the Pacific. I think it's described in "Night Flight," which is right up there with "Fate Is the Hunter."

In one of the last photos of St X taken, X looks old, fat,and very tired. Jesus, he died at a younger aged than I am now!

Looks like a perfect time for a big-bore kit and some head work.

But it's warming up and I wanna ride!! :(

Guess I have some work to do.

This all came about during a simple valve shim check and I discovered one of the shim buckets wouldn't turn in the bore. It's not even the one with the cracked valve.

What continent are you on, again?

We had a few days of above-freezing weather, but there's still a ton of snow on the ground and it's supposed to get cold again and snow more next week. Or are you on that tropical portion of NS up by Antigonish where all the Canadian pineapples and bananas are grown?

I don't think we'll be riding for another month at the earliest.

Haha, I'm in Halifax. We've have a couple days of 5-7 degrees Celsius (41F) and it would have been a great riding!

After reading all the posts here about authors and their books you've finally mentioned one that I've read!

Fate Is The Hunter was great.

I really enjoyed the description of the averted tragedy when the steel tower parts cut loose and slid all the way back in the plane on rotation. Just thinking about it was pretty scary.

It's a great read.

That was certainly an era of aviation when men were men (and sheep were terrified.)

We just watched the 1954 film called 'The Dam Busters' last night. Great movie!

Check out "Charlie Goes to War" by Glen Hancock. It's a memoir about his time with 408 goose squadron during ww2 flying Lancasters and Halifax bombers.

I borrowed a St. X quote out of the Dakar 30th Anniversary book for my Diabolicus Racing cards and I just put the Little Prince on my Kindle.

Hey Jacob, my girlfriend is putting in an order at Premier Wine and Spirits for a little contraband beer for us for the weekend I get home

Fate is the Hunter is not available for Kindle
