Exploring the most beautiful and winding Polish roads!

Hi everyone!

Recently, I created a thread in "Ride Reports" in which I described my motorcycle trip to the Alps.
In that thread, I wrote enthusiasticly about the beauty of these mountains, the good quality of roads and the breathtaking landscapes.

But! There's a question to ask.
Can you find great motorcycle routes in Poland (my homeland) too?

Of course, the answer is positive.
There are also beautiful roads with amazing views in Poland! Here, you will be able to read and see about that

So, in this topic I'll publish videos, photos and pieces of information from my rides that have taken place in the south of Poland.

Last year I recorded some videos with my GoPro camera.

Here is a fast review of my motorcycle season
:

And here is my YouTube channel with motorcycle videos.

Tomorrow, not mountain, but still exciting route, which is very famous among Cracow motorcyclist!

Stay tuned - this is just the beginning!

Have a nice evening,
Tom

Fun video. What's with the guys in the red capes with white trim? Are they Santa's helpers?

Cracow is an artist's/artistic city, is it not? You might be bored with it since you live there but it might interest some here.

Hi OldPete

They aren't Santa's helpers- they are a Santas, in the flesh
Every year in Poland, every motorcyclist become a Santa Claus.
Then we raise money for a laudable purpose, like orphanages or poor families

And yes, Cracow is an artistic city with many of monuments, museums and festivals.
Some say, that Cracow is the most beautiful city in Poland and maybe even in Europe? I'm used to this, actually
But, I'm proud that I live in this city
Cheers!
Tom

Route to Pieskowa Skała

We are starting in a beautiful location in the National Park of Ojców, about 30km north of the city of Cracow, near the village of Sułoszowa. Pieskowa Skała is best known for its Renaissance Castle.

Pieskowa Skała Castle

In the nearest area, you can see many monuments, among others: a castle in Ojców and a tall limestone monadrock named Maczuga Herkulesa ("The Cudgel of Hercules").

More informations here

The Cudgel of Hercules and my XJ600n

But now, we are interested in the amazing winding road in this region. The corners in "Pieskowa" or "Sułoszowa" are very famous among Cracow motorcyclists and not only.

Link to map

The route is about 5km in length and has a great quality of the asphalt. There are many fast corners and two wide chicanes.

My favourite road sign

We must remember though, it's not a racetrack. This is a public road and in the weekends the traffic (pedestrian traffic too) is dense.

It's me on the corners. Sorry for bad photos quality.

It's really hard to restrain riding the corners with racing aspirations but this place has been a witness to many fatal motorcycle accidents.

Some videos from my YouTube channel:

One of my very first videos.

With good Polish blues music!

3 camera shots: on me, from chest, from crash bars

3 camera shots too

Music video, with my buddy on XT350

The next episodes soon!

Tom

Hi Tom. Nice videos!

I was wondering if you know a good source of 'bad' roads for Poland. I'd rather use a track instead of turmac to go from A to B.

cheers, Wim

Hi Wim!

This is thread on a Polish forum.
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1310317

There is a map with condition of roads, date updated

The legend of a map:
Green- good
Yellow- not bad
Orange- bad
Red- critical
Blue- under construction
Gray- no data
Brown- pavement road

But we are accustomed to generally average condition of roads so maybe you need to look at this legend in that way: green=not bad, yellow=bad

If you have a questions, ask me

Cheers!
Tom

The Pass at Ostra

The location of the route is situated some kilometers to the south of Cracow.

Link to map

In this place, we can taste a mountainous road just a little bit. It's like a warm-up.
Until we get to the title Pass, we have to ride some interesting and picturesqe roads, near Gdów, Laskowa and Limanowa.

Like in this compilation:

Do you like rockabilly music?

On the way we are riding a lot of corners with different kinds of asphalt (usually good). We get to the Pass at Ostra.

The Pass has only two 180 degrees corners and some fast long corners. And surprise, this road is a racetrack of the Hill Climb Race.

But on a daily basis it is an ordinary public road with a good quality of the asphalt.

Sorry, I don't have photos from this place.
But in this link you can find much photos and information about Hill Climb Race at Ostra Pass

Cheers!
Tom
