For Ocracoke, like Jax said earlier, Howard's is a must. sMacNally's at the Anchorage marina in great too. The Back Porch is probably the best restaurant on the island. Ocracoke Coffee Co. is a great place to start your day. I spend a lot of time out there, and plan on retiring there. I love it.

Morehead/Atlantic Beach is better than Carolina Beach, at least for me. What do you want to do when you are there? Fort Macon is cool, so is the Aquarium. Take the water taxi over to Shackleford or Cape Lookout for a day if you want to rough it.

harkers island? it looks like its the place to take a water taxi out to cape lookout, where they appear to allow primitive camping, but do they allow primitive camping on the main island (harkers island)?
Its not entirely clear on the internet

Harker's is a little, uh, inbred.... I wouldn't stay there. I'm not sure about camping on Lookout, I anchor and stay on the boat. I think you can also get the taxi in Beaufort. Great restaurants there too and a cool little town. Try the Blue Moon Bistro for killer food or the Backstreet Pub for music & drinks. Backstreet is a good hole in the wall type pub.

Ride on south to Wilmington and see the battleship North Carolina if you haven't yet. There's other things to do in Wilmington too.

All good suggestions!
