Got a note from Marvin today!

"
Hi folks, just a short update for the Armenia D/S to be held on May 18, 2014.

Bad news and good news. Bad news- lost a couple of properties where we had trail due to logging and a sale.
Good news - We have worked hard to gain that trail mileage back by extending existing trail.

We still have a couple of sections to work which can be completed in a couple of days.

Route sheet is not done yet, but guessing we will wind up with about 70-75 miles total with over half of that trail as in the past.

At this point we are about 2/3 full and entries trickle in each day. Those of you that gave me an e-mail address have been notified that I have rec'd your entry(s).

Just a short reminder: Please insure your bike is street legal and all lights work and also has a spark arrestor. We will check and if you can't meet those standards we will gladly refund your money.

Please remember that updates on other Dual Sports can be found here: www.carolinadualsporters.com
See ya soon.
Marvin "

Hello, Randy here. Im signed up for this ride and looking forward to it.I live in the Lake Lure area SE of Asheville. A crash while racing motocross left me with a plate and screws in my shoulder. Other than my Harley, I have not been back on a bike for 10 years. Just got a KTM 500EXC and looking forward to meeting you folks. My days off are Sundays and Mondays. Maybe ill be able to join yall on some rides.

Is camping allowed Sat night? If not, any places close by to pitch a tent or two?

The flyer says "free primitive camping at the start" area. That is what I am planning on doing.

I should've read the flyer a little more closely!

LOL... they hid that line in there pretty well. I had to look at it again before I answered your question. It is not mentioned in the "lodging" line.

Free primitive camping Saturday night!

I'll be bringing my video projector rig and we'll watch some SX or motorcycle movies in the Garage Majal.

Going

I'm going. another of the over 50 crowd with body customized with plates and screws from street bike crashes. KTM 450exc. Been 'playing' in woods and trails on an old IT175 for years but I'd put myself at novice for a trail run like this. Ya'll wave as you pass my slow ass. My only goal is to finish, without any additional interior reconstruction :

Oh yeh, I'll be tent camping out in the 'primitive' area. Have a small hauler I could sleep in but don't really want to pull it 5 hours each way, just gonna load the bike into the back of the pickup.

The second woods section will be gnarly and technical, but there are easy outs, use them if you want. More often than not, you can look to the side and see what you missed! Dont let that section worry you, you can bail on it easily if you need to, the rest of the ride is smoother...

Then on, it will be mostly easier trails used 1 day a year, with some technical stuff sprinkled it. Bring a gas can so you can fuel up at one of the best DS lunches around, then on for the afternoon finish!
