Today, not one part of me felt cold at anytime!
Bald Mesa has been on the list for over a decade.
The Winchesters
Rode up this to the end.
At the NF fence it got a little interesting.
No further progress.
Back tracking, I shot the south end of Bald Mesa.
I am looking to get up there!

As I rolled back down the ridge I notice a line shack in the bottom of N-O canyon.
Behind the shack is an old road that climbed steeply out of the canyon, but it had a SLD sign indicating foot access only. A quick look at the map and up N-O I go towards Bald mesa.

The bottom of the canyon was a little rocky. I found an exit up a loose hill onto the slope that led to the mesa. As much map study and looking at Sat. images that I do, it is always a little different on the ground.
The track went right to the edge of Pine canyon then started climbing a steep hill up the north end of the mesa. Very similar tread as
Rug road, steep side hill, loose round rollers of all sizes and a few ledges. I stopped on a flatter piece to assess the obstacle. As I let the clutch out, in a heart beat the 650 was on its side, this is only the third time in over two years I have had to pick it up.
The ledge is not that bad, and there is always that feeling of how much worse could be around the corner.
A bit more work was needed to clear the crux, then I was rewarded, I am now on Bald mesa after looking at it for many years.

The vistas were incredible!
Very little traffic here.
End of the line.
I consider the Galiuro, Winchesters, and Dragoon complex to be the heart of the Sky Island district.
The ranges.
Rincons.
The Santa Catalinas.
Southern end of the East Divide, Galiuros.
The Santa Terasa with the Black hills in the foreground.
The Pinalenos.
And the northern end of the Winchesters.

The decent.
This shot has an extremely steep old track going down into Pine canyon.
Looking west.
What I could not shoot while riding up.

Off of the mesa, I have one more thing to look at.
The Pine canyon crossing.
Looking across the canyon, I knew it was not today.
I turned the bike around here.
From a different vantage.
Back in the good stuff.
I rolled back toward the house at a relaxed pace.
When the second rare incident happened.
122 total miles
76 dirt or trail miles
Unbeatable weather!

Been a while since I've been on here. Anyone up for a ride in the next few weeks? I've got about a month until our first one is due and once he's born I'll probably have a little bit of a tougher time getting out riding. I'm game for a good dirt ride!

Crisp clean air

That rain was great!
As hot as its been it was very nice to feel the moisture in the air.
A little sloupy to start.
.
Down town Cascabel.
A group of seven.
.
Considering how much rain fell, the River road was in good shape.

The end goal of this ride was not accomplished due to private property.
Rolled back down the River road, turned onto the north end of the Gomez loop to take a brake.
.
.
.
With ninety miles on the clock already I contemplated my options for the afternoon, knowing the geology change I will encounter if I do the loop coupled with the moisture I decided to visit the Dead instead.

After Prayer, I headed back into the hills and discovered more deceased and doomed.

.
After topping out this short loop, then dropping the wash I came up on the caskets.

Here is what anchors these monsters to be to the earth.

The money maker, or the grave digger, it all depends on the handling and placement from here.

Plan B?

Awesome pics! Wish I had the time to ride more and take a few myself. I'm curious as to what your contingency plan is if you end up having a medical emergency since it appears you're riding alone in some very remote areas.
