Hes a fussy firker. says rubber between gearbox and driveshaft has little cracks in it. now it could last years or do you want to replace it. Replace it I say. you saw the front axle. hes re centring front wheel minus spacer. cunning old bugger how he is doing it

Thanks, I'll do it some other time, if you don't mind. We need to get back home and get stuck in again. I hate moving.

Basil is back. He arrived last night and I could hear him well before he turned into the drive. It's been getting colder down here, but I am looking forward to a ride.

Good news. Want to hook up for a ride. Unfortunately this weekend is a bit busy - doing the Muddy buddy on Sunday with the kids- should be good.
Snow on the hills now. I should get onto my heated vest.

No rush, our kids are flying down from AKL on the weekend so I won't be going anywhere. No snow around here, but I was bloody cold the last few days. This house has huge single glazed windows with aluminium frames, so the heat does not hang around much.

Currently we are trying to figure out why we have a huge electricity consumption. 2 people should not be using 1200kw/h in 30 days, even with a pool. There has got to be a fault somewhere.

Just going thru this with a customer. Who are you with? Any spikes during any months? With your power bills do you get a comparison from the previous year?
Are they actual readings or estimates? Do you have remote meters ie meters inside the house with lil numbers outside Are your meters old?
Do you have one particular meter reading higher than others? Do you have a seperate flat attached or out building.

Do you have solar hot water; if so is it on economy or 24hr?
gas hob or electric;
heatpump? big or small?
heaters?
Does your wife do a lot of baking?
Pool heated by any means?
Any immigrant families stashed away in the garage?

That would have been compared with the previous house, but the previous house was about half that
Are they actual readings or estimates? Actual readingsDo you have remote meters ie meters inside the house with lil numbers outside Are your meters old?Meters are new, we have three digital ones. I am assuming general power, hot water and night storage
Do you have one particular meter reading higher than others? Yes, the one that meters the general power, but that would be expected Do you have a seperate flat attached or out building. The pool pump house is also attached

Electric hot water cylinder, it appears that this using about the right amount of power
gas hob or electric;
electric
heatpump? big or small?
wood fire
heaters?
Does your wife do a lot of baking?
has baked a few things, but not really a lot
Pool heated by any means?
we have solar heating, a pump pumps the water into a black piping system on the roof. That's been running for 9 hours a day.
Any immigrant families stashed away in the garage?
Nah, we're living in the house :-)
The previous owners have been using less, and it's only two of us. I've talked to neighbours and they've been using a lot less and also have a pool.
It must be related to the pool. At this rate I can see a few goldfish and water lilies on the horizon.

Hmmmm. That is high. Did you get it cut off from the last owner & a reading taken?

http://www.physics.otago.ac.nz/eman/...energyuse.html

The pump isn't a great power draw so I'm unsure if it would be that.
I would hazard a guess that it would be the cooking appliances myself. Maybe too many roasts & fry ups
I would wait for a couple of months & monitor the bill to see if it drops.
I have a energy consumption meter thing you can hook around individual wires to see what each circuit draws. i went thru my house with it & was quite interested in the amount of power different things used.
You may borrow it if you wish to delve deeper.
