01-16-14 A catchup thing

Yep that's right we have to got a bit back to catch everyone up... So we had the winds, exhausted. No food pics, no drink pics, just done...

Now... What to do, hmmm. Big heads seem good to me (La Veta).

Then an odd thing happened, we saw a familiar face

I had not idea that the 80's were so alive and well....

Uneventfully we arrive at our destination...

Si it is not exactly the same as you last ruins, but that is what this one different

Heads, big heads

Really are very amazing, the stone came from over 100 km away.

There are other items too...

We got lucky and one of the workers gave us a guided tour, and description (in Spanish) of the exhibits... Amie is understanding more than I, but we are both getting better...

I just like this photo....

Ohh and they had alters too... Only later did we find out than most if not all of these are replicas... Fiberglass, the originals and in museums. All move because of oil.

The ride back to our current abode was, shall we say slow.

Not sure why all traffic had been stopped, was either the bridge was raised or lunch time. Either is a good pick..

Hungry as always? we found a local place to try, it was new too only opened a couple of months back, but the food was amazing...

and a new beer the owner really liked, sooo did I, it is a dark ale but darker than any other Mexican beer i have had. Very good

Apparently when we arrived the staff sorta panicked. That is to say our Spanish was not going to be up to spec, HA... Any ho... The Chef took care of us until the very well traveled owner could make it in, both had very good English and took such good care... We ate some items not on the menu, so interesting when these things happen. Also introduced to very good Tequila and of course the beer.... Ladrillo in Coatzacoalcos if anyone is interested...

Tomorrow we move on.

01-17-14 Head to the beach...

Yep that is what we wanted, a beach to camp on.... Was not going to happen today, but soon.

We push south

Really thought we had found a place, but Pemex had it all done

I was all looking a little sad, so we continue south, yep that's what we do we go south...

We went the wrong way...

Only once thou

And still we push on

We are getting closer but no close enough to get there today, so now we must find 1) a place to stay and 2) food....

Ok the food... Tiny little family place

The food was right up the road from where we stayed... Us and the mosquitoes

Got em in the end

Tomorrow a beach? i hope so.

01-18-14 The beach all in one post

It's me birthday week... We need to stop.

So after a short ride we come to the camping / RV park that internet research turned up.... Not cheapest place mind you but they do have their own restaurant, back to the pics

and yes food and a view

or view and food?

and we are not done yet... Well for today yes, but this is a multi-day post...

The next day presented us with some new people, a Swiss couple driving their "Tank" my term not theirs

Lost of fiberglass, but still very tough looking...

What did we do the rest of the time you may ask? Well

Camped

Sat. yep still trying to work on ANY tan

Just watched the world run by

Oh, we ate

finger licking good

and made friends with the locals, he was a little camera shy... But very friendly (is the owners dog) until 6am when you need to getup and pee, then he follows you barking all the way.. Hmm wonder how this would work if the place was busy???

Just to mix things up I did some bike work

nothing major, just make sure everything is tight...

We meet more peoples, 2 more international couples... Not an American in sight (except for Amie) ... We sat drank and had a very good time of it all...

But there is always time for food, we have been carrying falafel with us since? well the start of this entire trip... Now it is time to cook

Sticky stuff

not my best ever, but under the cooking circumstances very good all the same...

That concludes our sitting still for now, we stayed a day longer here than we had expected... Riding is calling us, a new place; a new beach?

01-22-14 a new stop over

The day we left the beach i had wanted to move. The place was fine, but for the price really was not all it should have been.... Off we go, we had a thought of where we wanted to be. Once there it was so early i had the great idea to ride some more, stupid idea!!!!

But we got some pretty pics from the ride.

The beaches are looking so good.

We kept going till this

and the worst police stop of the trip just 10 min up the road. The lead cop spoke quite good english, i was getting quite nervous by the end of the search. Although there was nothing for them to find; it was becoming apparent he was really trying to shake us down. He held my DL for the whole 30 min, and asked why i looked nervous. I said in return "i have heard stories about the Mexican police." Once said my DL was returned and we were on our way...

We arrive in Merida in the nick of time, i tired today very quickly... Nothing some more rest wont fix I have a feeling that the 7 months of traveling is catching up with us. We need a place to be for longer than a few days or a week. We have moved thru Mexico at a very fast pace, not the best way to travel. A cunning plan is needed

But before a cunning plan we need some food

For me

For Amie

Both just amazing.....

Even with the resting and coming up with a cunning plan we have walked some.

Just not as much as we usually would have....

And just to add on more thing to this adventure; tonight is Beer and Pizza night, HA no pics. You all know what that looks like!!!!

O almost forgot; the cunning plan.

Find a rental and just be... Close to a beach and sit.... What a good plan!!!!

Taking a vacation from your adventure is often a good idea. Rest up, chill, enjoy. We're not going anywhere.

HA... Cannot say i miss that fun

We have been in Tulum for the past 2 weeks, and will be heading to El Coyu after... Has been so very nice to just sit, relax, cook and be... I had expected to do day trips, this has not yet happened and the lack of internet access has been a blessing in disguise.

So many things to do and not doing any of them, HA. Life is good....

We are both alive and well, just a few more mosquito bites than the last time i posted...

We are still here; but internet access is than dial-up We have a USB stick that works at the blazing speed of EDGE............

When we first arrived all good and well, we knew where the stick was and we could get online. After giving to one of the other "guests" it disappeared for the better part of two weeks... We have it again!!!! i know right? we shall be posting and trying to fill in the gaps.....

03-09-14 Chelem - El Cuyo

I know it has been some time since i have made the effort to post, at least anything good ;-) So after hours of uploading via the blazing speed of an EDGE connection here it goes.

While in Merida we found two rentals, one to start on the 16th of Feb thru the end of March and the other to get us thru till the 16th of Feb. Both of us have been needing to stop; relax and just enjoy... Our first rental was in Chelem, the place looks great and the owners were very relaxed and personable. Don't worry about sending money they say; just bring some cash!!! This triggered a fight or flee response from me, but we both figured it was worth the risk. Off we go to Chelem. We should not have been worried, the owners were / are great. An Australian / Canadian couple, we were greeted with Beer and the Australian open on the TV. We drank, talked and just had a good time.

The house too was just wonderful. More than enough for the two of us and the most wonderful king size bed ever!!!

We cooked and ate

Watched the wild life

Watched the sun set

and took the time to simply relax

But three weeks can go by so very quickly, the rig had to be checked because we were due to head to our next rental. While checking the rig i, to my disappointment found the sidecar wheel had bearing issues again. This will have to be fixed at our next stop, until then the spare will have to do.

Off to El Cuyo.

We had let the GPS guide us to El Cuyo, it was a good idea at the time!!! Apparently (even with my good Mexico maps) the GPS does not know a dirt road from a sealed road, HA... We ended up having to find a different route.

El Cuyo is a small fishing "town" just this side of the Caribbean. The water (on a good day) is clear and beautifully green, warm and very inviting. Our closest large "City" is Tizimin, and hour or so ride away.

After our time in Chelem the rental in El Cuyo was a huge let down. It was approx the same price as what we had in Chelem but nothing as nice. Basically like a hotel room, grrrrrrr...
After the disappointment passed and the better aspects of El Cuyo were discovered, we more or less accepted what we had and were determined to make the best of it.

As in Chelem we watched the wild life, some of it more welcome than others.

We call him "Uno" (initially it was number 1- haha, get it?)

Google did the snow, i just find it funny...

He has ingratiated himself to us, in return we got rid of all the fleas and ticks that had attached themselves to him. He has also proved himself to be a very good helper.

And yes i did fix the bearing issue.

Shims cut from beer cans and some spare parts from the first time it was "fixed" proved to be what was needed.

Our little place in El Cuyo has one redeeming feature, it has a screened in palapa. We spend our time in here, cook in here, etc, etc.

Other people staying in the area have been joining us, as the misquotes mostly come out at night; mostly...

We have been a little more active here in El Cuyo. We did have all these plans to make day trips, but it so nice to not be riding that these plans, at least for now have not been put into action. As stated earlier the beach and water is wonderful, fishing is back on the recreational list and has fed us at least one night. It took a week or two to work the whole salt water thing out again; it has been many a year since i last fished a beach. All the tackle i bought with was for fresh water, a few / many lure changes later and I had a winner!!! The fish cannot get enough of them ;-)

We will post again from El Cuyo, better pics and all the rest. Today's post has been bought to you by the wonders of rum, pineapple and mango. Yes we are really roughing it....

BTW, everyone loves a sidecar
