Excellent report! Always good to read a report on a ride in Russia! Especially from the viewpoint of a Russian rider!

Anyone riding a motorcycle to Murmansk probably knows that the must-be point during that trip is Sergey's Moto-hotel in Kola. Recently came second important take-a-rest point of north of Russia, Guest House in Suoyarvi with Katerina and Sergei . It is situated 140km from boring Murman road M18, so driving through the wild forests of Karelia near the lake Suojarwi certainly is a great stepping stone in the asphalt trip. Karelian forests have good gravels so no worries about passability throughout the whole year- roads are cleared also in winter.

and info from Katerina:

That should be possible. We went there last summer. Just remember to bring enough fuel ;-)

Don't look back, you are not going in that direction :-)

Pictures?

Thanks, I might be going there this summer. Just read about the Norwegian settlements there from 1900-1950 (approx). Could be interesting to have a look.

Studied the satellite photos on yandex.ru. There seems to be a road/track on the southern part of the peninsula, then crossing over to the northern part. Ca 100 km from Titovka, right? Do you have any photos from Tsypnavolok?

And thanks for the tip about the fuel.

Hi!
On what type of bike ride?
There's a dirty bad road, a lot of puddles.
Usually it go by jeep and quad bike, motorcycle uninteresting.
Benzin in the town ZAPOLYARNY.

Roads are clearly visible on the old maps General Staff (Генштаб, Soviet military maps, Genshtab) TopoMapper.com

One part of the peninsula is clearly visible in Google and the other in Yandex satellite maps.
Now there is always some ruins military bases, I think from the Norwegian settlements no trace left.

Hi,

it might be on a Triumph 800XC, if you meant type of bike. Thank you for your advices, I also found maps on http://maps.vlasenko.net/

And regarding the settlements, I guess they were replaced by military installations during WWII.
