And get the clear paint protectant film...

I absolutely love the GL bag. When you dial in the routine of how to organize, load and mounting and unmounting the bag, you will too if you haven't already. Heat shields are longevity for the bag. And making a stencil of your side panel rear half for use as a template to cut out paint protectant film adhesives, which will keep scuff and paint marring away.

Also if you and a top bag above your GL, it works best that it has top zip. And load it with those items in need of easy access.

It all depends on how you mount the GL. I mount mine a little further forward. I can't ride with a passenger with it that way, but it gives me a bit of back rest, allows me to have a top case behind it, and allows use without shields.

Will my 990 need Giant Loop heat shields?

I couldn't find any good pictures of the Giant Loop heat shields installed on a 990 and I stumbled across this thread. Radek your picture was worth a thousand words as to where the rear panel would be baked on a 990:)

I really like the GL great basins bag that is tried and tested but I may go with the 2014 ALTRIDER luggage (seen in Vendors section)

So it got me hunting around my garage for a better heat shied option that what I had seen so far and I found a CF Zeta heat shield and mounted it up. Might be a few $ more than the GL shield but it's smaller and lighter and fits like a glove where the bag will force the plastic to hit the section of header pipe.

Just another option for people interested.
