He and I had ridden together many many times weekends and week long rides, camped, laughed, and told stories together for several years.
Sure makes you think. I spend a lot of time on the roads. Shoot, to go out and ride the "creek roads" I've got to ride 100+ miles of blacktop.
Sad times.
Jeff, this is sad news about your friend.
I had a close call on Saturday, out for a ride and some dumb ass texting pulls out in front of me!
Could have been ugly!
I listened to the report about the two fatalities on the radio and started thinking maybe I should get out while the gettins good.

Like you, I have been on many long distance trips to some beautiful places, only to have the near misses happen 5 miles from the house.

It is a risk we all accept

I too think about this often . . . it is a life style choice we have all made, and hopefully all have thought about this risk . . . I am always saddened to hear of the death of cyclists. You see them just about weekly on STLToday.com Acknowledging this risk is important. Expect the un-expected. anticipate other drivers, stay focused while riding, wear the proper gear. If you have made 30 years of riding, you already know and do these things. Just keep them in the forefront, and be safe out there

Its always good to here great attitudes about riding from some one you have ridden with and respect Bill

Even though you think these things for yourself, it good to have them reiterated!

It looks like Friday will be a good day to get the 690 out and hit some dirt roads. Anybody interested in showing me a few of the good ones around Troy, Washington, Hermann, Wentzville area?

Cheers,

MrHix

I ride from Warrenton to Hermann frequently during the week. I took a gravel road this week, you see some interesting things out there in them woods! Planning on a different route each ride until I get them all covered. I'll give a shout if I find any great rides.

Bixby General Store, I used to get there in 36 (or more) trail miles from Sutton's Bluff Campground. Is the campground open for the year yet?

Hey sieg----------I forget---seems I remember someone saying they don't allow any motorcycles in Sutton's Bluff the campground---licensed or not---what do you know ?????
Can't see how they could do that with licensed vehicles---but just didn't know for sure.

If your bike weighs more than 400lbs. You might not make it.

Do you have the forest service brochure for Suttons Bluff? It shows a scenic overlook (bino symbol) and folks camp there.
Almost a straight shot from 21 and I seen a 30ft toy hauler up there so access is piece of cake. At work so don't have any better details.
