You'll really enjoy your new 09. It just feels better than the prior frame.
You'll love Glacier, it is so worth the ride. I liked Chief Joseph also and going east out of Cody on 14 I think, was a great ride also. Have fun

So on we went up to Beartooth Pass

We finally made it to Beartooth Pass

No traffic, beautiful views everywhere, twisty roads. It doesn't get any better then this! By the way if it does please tell me where!!!

Stopped here to check it out, cool little place

Traffic jam again, you really have to be aware of the free range cattle, they were everywhere

View from the top of the pass

And of course more construction. This one was one the east side of Beartooth and we were stuck here waiting for about 20 minutes.

Jim posing with my new motorcycle!

A rare shot of Jim behind me omn the way down the pass.

We stopped up here to take a breather and a guy came up to us and started talking with us about our bike and his. He was on a vacation with his wife and friends but was really jealous of us when we told us about our trip. He said that he had a bike at home and he really wished that he was on it instead of being stuck in a car. I wish I could remember his name.

I love traveling by motorcycle because you meet the coolest people. No matter where we stopped someone wanted to talk to us, I love that

Final push for home

Well we were finally heading back east towards home.

Back into Wyoming just outside Cody going towards Gillette

We rode these roads 2 days earlier but today we didn't have to go through the clouds. This is in the Bighorn National Forest

I don't think that smile ever left my face for two weeks!!

Neither did Jims!!!

After being on the road all day we decided to stop in Spearfish SD and call it a night. Unfortunately there was not a hotel room to be found due to all of the politicians in the state being here for some big meeting. So now it is dark and the closest rooms were in Deadwood.

So we got back on the bikes and made it into Deadwood. Hopped on the Trolley and went downtown for some much needed food and cold frosty beverages.

So after having great weather for most of the trip we knew that we were going to get rained on going home. We made it to Sioux City Ia. the next day and we stayed just behind the rain. We left the next day for home and just as we got into Illinois it started to rain on me, Jim took a more northerly route home and completely missed the rain but not me. Just outside Rockford I made the stupid mistake and jumped on I-90. Well after riding 4700 miles I saved the scariest part for the last. I couldn't get off that road fast enough. Between the rain, semi-trucks and the ignorance of the 45mph construction zone speed limit not to mention that there were no shoulders, I seriously was afraid for my life. Moral of the story, stay off the interstates near Chicago! Any way I did get home safe. No pictures for the last two days(how could I top the previous days pictures) as there really was nothing to take pictures of.

Final mileage:4755
Total Days:13
Fun Factor: (1-10) 11
Thanks for viewing, I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I liked sharing it.
Stay safe and I leave you with this:

Life is NOT a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, ass in one hand, beer in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Chicago To Glacier on a Harley

Really enjoyed your Ride Report. Also have an Ultra along with a Suzy DR650. Gonna be doing a similar trips this summer, and your report helps get through the snow flurries we are having today in Central WI.

Can't wait for the first spring rains to wash the salt off the roads.

We'll see alot of the same stuff, have finalized up our plans for leaving out on July 4th headed up thru the Tetons, to Yellowstone, then on up to Glacier, and a day trip over into Canada.

Very nice ride report.

Thank-you for posting it up.

My trip (three years ago) from St. Louis is very similar to yours, and I even took my trusty little Harley.

Went solo, and stuck mostly to the 2-lane roads. Had heated gear, but a windshield/fairing would have a very welcome addition !

All in all, it was a blast.
