Every single new bike that comes out people complain about the exhaust,
whatever it looks like, and then they replace it with whatever (any brand
really) and it's automatically better.

It's all in your heads.

Question

so.... isn't there some cognitive dissonance going on in the "Beasts" Folder?
if CB500X can be thought of [seriously?] as anywhere near "adv"
if Versys has gained a toehold
if Tiger 1050 ever saw a dirtly road

then, why is there not a FZ-09 "as ADV" thread up and rolling in the thousands?

I've really been sniffing that bike, read lots of owner reviews - there are many things to 'fix' as noted by posters here, but c'mon... people are trying hard to make d/s out of the aforementioned... how bad can it be?
fix suspension
get some bug protection up front
find a wheel or at least tire
slap a bashplate on it...

I for one think the suspension is great for off road riding.

Fitting a bash plate looks like a challenge to me (where do you attach it)?

It really feels like the same size as the CB5X . . . Very similar suspension travel . . . Twice the horse power . . . and less weight.

If they do make a MT/FZ 09 Adventure . . . Lets hope they don't overdo it and add too much weight and TC etc.

Many riders tried to make a Super Enduro into an Adventure . . . and broke the SE rear sub frame from all the extra weight they hung on it.

More than likely, it will require a much more hardy frame . . . steel would be better than aluminum for durability etc.

I like that ^^^ style machine but would rather have the 700 inline twin from the Euro-spec MT-07. Build it, Yamaha and I will buy it.

leave that stinkin' seat alone! much more functional as-is and don't need the raising of COG with megapoundage on the seat

Laugh Yamaha, please give us the MT07 Ténéré!

The 660 Ténéré is a great adventure bike.
It is build like a tank, have spoked wheels, good tank range and despite being a bit obese it handles pretty well when the going get rough.
BUT it's a buzzing thumper with less than 50 bhp. That's fine for off road riding, but for many riders it just doesn't cut it on the street.

The 1200 Ténéré is also a great adventure bike.
It is virtually indestructible, it has the right wheels, respectable tank range, it's a comfy ride, great for hauling heaps of luggage and a passenger and it's surprisingly capable off the tar despite being seriously obese - and I really like the shaft drive.
BUT it is a heavy beast and if you ride solo 1200ccm is more of a burden than a benefit under most circumstances.

With the 660 and the 1200 Ténéré's Yamaha has proven that they know how to manufacture reliable and purpose built adventure bikes.

If Yamaha used their knowhow to build a Ténéré with the engine from the MT07 and did it right, it could be the adventure bike that they (and the market) are missing at the moment.

*Compact twin cylinder engine with crispy 75 bhp
*Spoked wheels, adequate suspension and ground clearance.
*Decent wet weight (MT07 = 182 kg/400lbs).
*Long maintenance intervals (MT07 = 10.000km/valves at 40.000km)
*A reasonable price tag (taking in to account the pricing of the MT07).

I really hope that Yamaha refrain from using the MT09 triple in a new Ténéré. It would make the bike heavier and more fuel consuming - and Triumph already have that base covered with the Tiger.
Besides that a 850 Ténéré would be competing directly with the 800 GS - and that could prove to be quit a mouthful...

... I just had to get it out

If Yamaha builds the bike with either the twin or triple, its main sales competion will be Tigers or the twin BMWs. The current Tenere competes with the other big adventure bikes, so in today's motorcycle economy, it will either have to undersell the current offerings from other manufacturers or be significantly better. With the FZ 09 they gave buyer the basic frame, motor, forks(usd with radial brakes, still need cartridges)and priced it to sell, the new SV 650 of the time, buy it, fix it shortcomings to suit your needs, and you have a good bike. Look at what a DL650, Tiger 800, or BMW costs to build and you can get an idea of how much this bike will cost to build and sell.

They're probably making a TDM replacement first.. (or only that), I doubt it there will be another Tenere.
