Extra Parts After Starter Torque Limiter Update?

I helped a buddy do the starter torque limiter update on his 950 last night, but the kit seems to have an extra part we can't figure out where it goes.

The kit had the new side cover, new torque limiter, new idler gear, new gasket and a new hose clamp. All of that makes perfect sense.

In the baggie with the new hose clamp was a bolt. Where does this new bolt go?

Sure would be nice if instructions were included...

This IS an orange thread!

Of course it's about a PROBLEM...

This thing is tying up my lift!

Oh...btw...to add insult to injury, the oil is milky. Guess that means the whole right side of the bike needs to come apart for a water pump seal/shaft job?

Only problem with my orange bikes seems to be keeping the front wheel on the ground

Can't help you with the extra bolt you have. I'm still new with the whole LC8 thing.
I do know however with the older LC8s the weak point on the engine is the water pump seal and shaft. I've heard its pretty easy to change though, sounds like you have more wrenching to do

You've clearly never worked on a 950.

What size is the bolt?
It may be to replace the one that fastens the idler shaft to the side cover.

I thought about that. But that all came pre-assembled on the new cover. It is definitely too short to be a new bolt for the stator or the cover/case interface.

I know this is going to sound dumb, but "about an inch long". I realize it is metric, but I forgot to measure it and don't have it at work with me.

That looks like a 6x16mm bolt, and the only one I see in the parts diagram is the idler shaft bolt.
It is pretty sad they can't put that info in the box with the parts.

Extra bolt

avc8130, That is just too funny. When I did my torque limiter replacement a number of years ago the same question came up. Where does this extra bolt go. I asked a senior KTM tech some time later where it should be installed. His response... it is just an extra bolt they put in the kit to confuse the installers. My bike has never had an issue with the bolt uninstalled.

Cheers

Thanks! I'll chuck it in the bolt bin and forget about it forever.

You should put it on your Yamaha might make it go faster.

Quick question - I've just ordered a new torque limiter (60040017000) from ebay rather than the entire kit.

It looks to me like you need the idler gear as well, can someone please confirm?

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere.

Cheers,

Pete
