I read that you lost your camera with a lot of photos, total bummer

MV,
Geez, can't a guy go for a little putt without ADV riders hounding for a report complete with pics, vids, and witty banter ???

Yes, I spent 6 weeks in Baja recently on the 690....lost a camel pack with 2 cameras, all my Go Pro extra batteries, and some other ride essentials....forgot to put pack on when stopped on road up to San Javier mission due to focussing on Go Pro set up.....lost a week's worth of pics that I had not backed up...

...got over that loss after a few days....got lotsa Go Pro after that...and then had my bike stolen in San Felipe last day of trip....put up reward posters ($15,000 pesos) and also with the help of Kiki (where I was staying): http://www.kiki.com.mx/

got the bike back 48 hours later !!!!! (bike was stolen when parked outside a bakery for 5 minutes at 6:00 pm.....just wheeled away.....)

There....the ride report !!!

Maybe some time I will post some vids....but don't hold your breath...

East of Ciudad Insurgentes....stopped to watch the sunset, crack a Tecate, and spark up a smoke:

You know, It's your civic duty as an AdvRider to post a RR after any two wheeled adventure. Don't forget the witty banter!

Moto Vaquero,

Here is an image with the coords. Your route is pink, mine green, ridden in October of 2012. You can see where they overlap for bit and then ours goes SW to the highway.

Okay, thanks r2l.
I checked it out on GE and it looks like there is a trail/road you can take from that sign about .35mi west and then turn south to get around there. There are some other options too.
The ranchers get a lot of off road traffic through that area. I guess that some are just tired of it.

Sorry to hear that. Bummer. You folks from Kamloops aren't having the best of luck in Mexico. You have your bike stolen and a couple of months ago the Griffin's from Kamloops are robbed at the side of the highway. Glad you got your bike back.

Great RR Moto Vaquero

I will be in Baja for my first time in May for the Mexican 1000 and cant wait. Then plan on going back on KTM Supermoto R that I have converted to a dual sport for a much more liesurely ride/exploring trip although it's too big to go a lot of the places you went.
I have traveled mainland Mexico quite a bit (and love it) but always wanted to see Baja and your report was great.

Thanks Steve, I really appreciate the kind words.
I think you will have a great time down there.

In your packing list I don't think I saw you had a sleeping bag?

When you stayed in your plywood cabin at Campo Rene did they provide bedding?

The reason I'm asking is doing Baja in 2 weeks with motels in mind and not packing a sleeping bag, but if we come across accomodation like this will we need a bag?

Loved your report and have downloaded some of the easy tracks. I liked the beach riding from La Paz.

No reason to carry the bag unless you're camping out or if you're staying at the pink hotel in Catavina with all the bed bugs . Campo Rene has beds with sheets, blankets, pillows but you have to walk to the common bathroom. I hear they have been remodeling the place too.

Thanks on the RR and have fun on your ride. Definitely some great beach riding down in the east cape coast.

Thanks, that's great to know, cause i only bought the wolfman beta mini, smaller and lighter is better on a pig of a KLR i figure, more room for beer too with no bag.

On our way thru Tecate on April 4 all the way to Cabo, anyone going that way if we've been there you may see these stickers marking our way

Talking Wow!

What a ride report. Read every line. And to repeat everyone else's comments, yes inspiring. A pioneer of sorts. Appreciate it. Thanks!

Would love to see your Garmin Adventure tracks for Catavina to San Quintin. Looked amazing!
