Glad I could help, just love this site.
Well just ordered a GPS.
Was looking hard at an 2720 when I realized I did not just loose the gps for my bike, but also for my car when the Tom Tom bit the dust.
Best Buy had a web sale on the Garmin Nuvi 50LM for $99. Love the advance lane change thingy (no that's not its real name), and I am hoping since its back lit I will be able to see it in bright light. Life time map updates don't hurt either.
Thanks all for responses.

I still want a GPS, but how does Osmand compare to Googles GPS app ?
PS. Please keep the GPS suggestions coming.
I don't know what your phone is, but I have Tom Tom on my iPhone and like it so far. Gives you 3 choices on windy roads. Only $25 depending on op sys.

Just used Google map that was pre-installed.
Am using new GPS now, found out its not as bright as I had hoped but still usable. Also found when no signal for phone I lost my voice directions on the google maps. Guess Verizon is not everywhere.

google maps is a great ONLINE navigation and search machine.... but it sucks OFFLINE.

fortunately people have realized this and developed fantastic applications that do A LOT MORE than google maps.

check them out, they are fantastic, and do not require data ;-)

People seem to be getting rid of old Garmin 60CSx units as they replace them. If you can find a used one, they are waterproof, routing-capable, and not too steep of a learning curve.
I've had mine for years and tens of thousands of miles on the bike (plus on foot and in the car and on a few planes) and it still works beautifully. Plus, it has survived a few skids down the highway with only cosmetic damage.
