URGENT!!! Need a new rear tire 17" in Frankfurt am Main, Germany

So after a ticket today in Switzerland for a bad tire I would like to replace it before heading back to Sweden (was bad already when entering switzerland) ...yes Im bad.

Will anything be open tomorrow Friday the 30th of May, 2014?

Staying just north of Stuttgart but would prefer to continue north so any good place north of stuttgart up to frankfurt would be great.

Will be staying the weekend in Frankfurt but would prefer to fix the tire problem during friday if possible if not maybe monday morning before heading north.

If you know a place and could help out if with an address and if its open tomorrow please reply, maybe a phone number and if they speak any english at the place!

/Johan

Friday and also Saturday, most of the shops should be open.

Your best bet to find a motorcycle tire is a motorcycle shop, but they are more expensive than pure tire shops. If the shop doesn't have a tire on stock, they can probably get on a phone and find a shop with the tire for you. Ask them.

I guess there will be someone speaking English, but no necessarily. There is a big US air base in Frankfurt which increases your chances.

From your avatar, I guess you're riding a KTM. Google says, they have shops here:
Einsteinstr. 39 - 41, 76275 Ettlingen
phone 0049-7243-59300

Lausitzer Straße 15, 68775 Ketsch
phone 0049-6202-64426

Heidelberger Str. 185, 64285 Darmstadt
phone 0049-6151293648

Max-Holder-Straße 5, 60437 Frankfurt am Main
phone 0049-69-5600930

By the way,
you will be passing right be the Horizons Unlimited travel meeting:

69509 Ober-Liebersbach, 30min north of Heidelberg

Yes Im on a KTM 950 Adventure but have a set of 17/17 rims on it right now.

Will have some time today, meeting up with a friend later this evening in Frankfurt so only have about 2 hours of riding so there should be a little time to look for a new tire.

Thank you.

The police officer was really nice, he tried measuring several times like he would find any depth in the tire pattern but it was pretty much down to zero so ticket it was.

Looken for tire shops while heading to bike stores, first one did not have any in the correct size. Next had but they said I can get in trouble with German police running different brands front and back?

So I should be all good tire wise to get home.

Have another issue with high and low beam flashing, hid / xenon converted think ballasts are giving up or maybe just the bulbs? More on that later.

So it seems your problems are solved.

I wouldn't worry about the brand mix-up. Although there are strict regulations on tire choice for many bikes in Germany, they should only apply for bikes registered here. As a visitor, your tires should be certified for road use and match the bikes requirements on speed index, load index and dimensions.

On a different note,
the HU meeting was great, we met a lot of interesting people, learned a bit on maintenance and first aid and of course saw a few impressing photo shows.
Hero of the week was a fellow who completed the 2-day offroad training on a Yamaha Fazer.

Save travels,

Pip
