I rode some of the A single track last month with some of the club members. Fun on the small bike, doable fun on a DR650 size bike, would be tough (if skilled) on a big adventure bike. A dual sport does not equate to A enduro difficulty as laid out IMHO cause I am far from comfortable on narrow A stuff. The B & C stuff is supposed to be big bike friendly. I say bring the bike you want to ride and there will be an appropriate route for what you bring.

What bike to bring...

With such a wide range of dual sport bikes these days, and with them getting more capable all the time, A/B/C are getting more blurry than ever. I'll try to get more info on the whole trail as I only did some of it. Based on what I've seen, here's what I'd be riding:
A - My KTM 450. Don't think I could do this route on my KLR because of ground clearance and tight quarters.
B - I could probably do either but would again go with the KTM because it's a long two days and I'm not as, uh, conditioned as I once was to muscle the KLR.
C - The KLR for sure. Comfy...

Hope that helps. Would be great to ride with you again Drew! Bring the rest of the crowd!

Bring the big bike, I've been on your "big bike friendly" rides & you obviously you don't understand the concept.

Ride the Africa Twin through the A loop just to see that WTF look on the faces of the 450 and under riders faces

Too bad you can't make it Buddy. Javalina don't come up this high I don't think! Haven't seen one yet anyways. Give me a shout and come up for a ride some other time.

Another thought for Drew and others contemplating bike choice - CTR is historically a single track club. So the first dual sport A route by the club is gonna have some single track and lean toward the technical side. Even though I've seen you ride the African Twin through some nasty stuff, don't think it's gonna make the A loop because of ground clearance and weight in some places. B will be a challenge on it if you're looking for that. What else do you have these days? Last I rode with you was the Honda 250 at Coke ovens a couple years ago.

Bikes

I have a FX 450 Husaberg that I can get most anywhere rideable. Thanks for the feedback as I haven't ridden up there but once and it was the single track by the Airport. That would be all doable on the big bike but more fun on the smaller.

Nice. You'll have fun on the A loop on the Berg!

all I have is the 640A now, on the fence for the A or B loop, but leaning to the B.

Any good campgrounds nearby? I saw a KOA not too far from the Elks Lodge.
Any updates on recommended campgrounds? If my wife doesn't tag along, definitely would rather camp.
TIA

Sounds like the B loop and the twin would be fun! Let me know if you are going.
