Taking a week long trip first week of April...

Gonna run all the way up the Blue Ridge Parkway , then Skyline Drive ( I know... slow ass speed limit and all... ). Then wander with the GPS for the rest of the week. Anyone got any places I should visit in the Eastern US... No serious trails , pavement and well maintained dirt/gravel only. Im going to be on the FZ1. Also.... any of y'all got a couch I can borrow here and there??

You may want to check with the Parkway people to make sure that it is open in all sections that early in the year. They close the BRP from Asheville to 74 (maybe all the way to Cherokee), and From Asheville to 80. Thats a 75+ mile stretch that may be closed. Sounds like a good trip, I have wanted to make that trip for years.

i think in april you will not have to worry too much about slow speed limits, was there last year and was just before memorial day weekend, road was quite empty and saw no leo in about 150 mi headed north from cherokee nc. also lite traffic and no leo on the dragon tho we were on the dragon midweek. i can see how once tourist season hits it might be much more congested and enforced, but in mid-late may it was real nice. real nice
beautiful place to ride.

Earliest dates for BRP trip...

Anyone know when the earliest dates for a trip the length of the Blue Ridge Parkway with all sections open?

I'm also planning a trip and want to get there ASAP, but would rather not have to go around closed sections.

Thx,
David

It depends on local conditions. Last summer we had a section near Asheville closed for some time due to landslides. Not that I get on the BRP very often... Its only the most boring thing we've got around here. You could do much better. Pick a route out of your DeLorme Backroad Atlas through the following NC counties: Haywood, Madison, Yancey, Mitchell, Avery, Watauga, Ashe. OR crisscross the parkway on the way up. The roads coming down off the parkway are much better riding than the parkway itself. The roads off to the north (through the above counties) are even better than that.
