As I understand it, you load both sets of maps for the area that you are going to. In the map setup on the GPS there is an option to turn off display of selected maps. Turn off display of the City map and only show the Topo map. The GPS can still use the City map for routing but you will see the Topo map on the screen.

Thinking back, I may have tried it once. Personally, I don't like using the Topo map for display. I found it difficult to discern roads from contour lines, but that was just me.

There, no google reference...

I have attempted this with my 72CSX years ago, and it didn't work. Maybe with the newer versions?

Boise ride this weekend...

Got out yesterday to enjoy the sunshine a bit. Ran Harris Creek Summit to Bogus Basin - flowers were in full bloom around 6000 ft.

Thanks for the explanation, this I can understand. I'll have to give it a try.

Once in a while I have to zoom out to make sure I'm on a road and not a contour line as well.

Thanks again!

Murphy Days

I went down to Murphy Days yesterday. There I got a chance to meet Jason Abbott and his family. I have enjoyed Jason's stories and photo essays since I signed on to this forum.
His young son, Hunter was a quiet young man who I have come to respect after seeing his Dagget Creek ride video.
From there Marie and I went over to Grand View to the Crawdad feed at the Y-Bar. It is sure easy to sit down and gobble up a bunch of them. Actually, it is easy to over eat a bunch of them and pay for it, stomach wise, later.

We saw the gathering Saturday, as we were rolling out of Silver City. Looked like a good time.

P.S. I added a map thing you can use to see the track. Just click the little map at the top or the "map" link on any photo.

That's a mighty impressive ride for a teen. What a great experience.

That was a fun coincidence. It was nice to meet you, Ron. I thought we were headed up to the mountains but the majority voted to stay and play at Birch Creek. Great playground for kids small and large.

Anyone know if roads are open?

I'm looking at FS206 to FS186 on west side of west mountain up to No Business LO. Does anyone know if there is still snow up there? Taking a group that direction. Thanks in advance

Last time I was out toward No Business was 2011, June was too early to get through the saddle.

Dan, I was in HT today and Ed told me you were looking for this info. I will be working in the area tomorrow. I will take a look. Only a little snow showing right below the lookout looking at it from the valley floor. Alot of snow still showing on the south end of valley on West Mtn but not so much to the north.
