2 Day Mt Hood loop ride

Hey Guys

Got out last weekend with my good friend Bruce (who I did the WABDR with)
and did a really fun loop around the Mt.

We started in West Linn Sat morning and headed to Colton, where we topped off the tanks and before our first leg of the journey.

Not sure the road name, but we cut across to the Hillockburn on a fun gravel road that brought us out just below Goat Mt. From there we headed up NF 45 for a bit then to a higher route that would eventually drop us back down to the 45 and the Memmaloose Bridge.

Having heard that the 4610 was still snowed in last week, we decided to take the easy route up the 224 to Pipeline rd and over to Harriet Lake.

After a little break we headed up the Abbott rd loop to Highrocks, checking out Hideaway Lake and a few other spots along the way. Once to High Rocks we hiked around a bit and soaked in the views.

After an hr or so at the lookout, we dropped down Abbott rd and cut across to Clear Lake. This was a BLAST as the dirt rd that circles the shoreline is super pretty and a fun ride! Lots of good places to camp to, but we had plans to stay at Trillium, so after exploring around a bit we hit 26 and gassed up at the little station just south of the 26 / 35 interchange.
As luck would have it, there was a great little BBQ setup outside the station. So after we picked up some pulled pork and some ribs, we headed to Trillium, set up camp then head to the lake for some quality kickback time and some killer ribs!

What can I say, I like chick drinks

After sunset we headed back into camp, got a nice fire going and talked and bit about our route for Sunday but mostly about our future trip this summer on the OBAR.
Morning came quick and after a quick fire we packed up and headed out to the Barlow rd.

We rolled into Wamic right on time and had some lunch at my favorite burger place!

We still had lots of miles from here so after lunch we headed into Tygh Valley, gassed up and headed to Duffer.
We hit the 44 out of Duffer then pulled off at Cold springs rd to try to make it up to High Prairie. That was a bust as we hit lots of snow and mud about 1/2 up once it turns to dirt. We may have been able to push through the drifts, but Bruce's bit started to overheat so we turned back.
We got back on the 44 and turned off at Servyors ridge and followed that down to Pinemont then ran up to the top of Bald Mt.
This proved a bit tricky with a big loaded down bike, but after a little struggle, we made it to the top.

After soaking in the sun a bit and watching all the glider pilots flying there planes, we headed down, hit some of the trails in the OHV area, then headed through Parkdale and off to Lost Lake.
The ride there was beautiful and we made good time just cruising through the country on a nice sunny day.
We pulled into the Lake and met a fellow ADV'er. Chatted for a bit before we headed out on the last stretch towards home.

We left the lake, headed up and over Lolo pass and eventually onto Wildcat Mt road down into Estacada. More backroads got us home around 6:45 with around 375 mile total.

Had perfect weather the whole trip and a GREAT time!!!

Great pics David! Looks like we just missed each other up by High Rock. I am looking to plagiarize your 2-day trip and do Barlow, Lolo, and maybe Bennett. How much to hire you as our official photographer?

Nice loop. What's "Your favorite restaurant in Wamic"? The lawnmower races place?

Yep, the Sportsmans Pub and Grill.
Pretty sure its the only place in town, but the burgers are great!
The lawn mower races are a big bonus if you hit it on the right weekend. Those dudes are crazy!

No GPS tracks.
I dont know how to do that yet but need to learn soon. I have some crazy cool routes but have no idea the name of the roads. Im a dork like that.
I just kinda go........... And usually end up somewhere cool

Nice report. That's two mentions of the CJ's Chevron BBQ trailer this week. Good stuff!

Great ride, great report, and great pictures! You make it really hard to concentrate on working inside right now though... I may have to try and copy part of your route on Friday and/or Saturday!

Nice!
I'll have to try a version of that loop sometime. Been through all those places. Just not in the same trip.

Scout, looks like a great time was had and thanks for the photos. Btw, when are you going to share the HR Valley commercial shoot photo?

We should have an ADV meet up over there for the race some weekend. Good times, and family friendly.

Question Post your route ?

hi, thanks for sharing this ride.

Anyway for you to share your routes taken ?? Waypoints ??

nice ride, want to do it. Maps work best for me, not a bunch of "turn left at a stump that looks like a grandma hit it with a semi truck"..
