During the week of the 4th of July my wife and I will be staying in Almond nc. We run an xt250 and dr650 and will just be exploring the area. My gps skills won't get me far but will have one along. Post up or PM.

Andy, did you Motel it...or camp? I am a hammock short on all my camping gear and that will be on the way soon. I am waiting for my new seat to arrive for my Wee and then I am ready. My DRZ is not set up for hauling much gear at all, but the Wee has plenty of room for "stuff".
I don't think mixing big bikes & small will me much of an issue as for fuel(thanks for the fuel list).

For you paper map guys........

Dave Hall of Billet Innovations is working on a roll chart for the Smokey Mountains 500. You can find more info about Dave and his products in the ADV vendor area: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=588884

To answer the lodging question: I like to rent one of the cabins available at the campgrounds. I don't have to carry a lot of stuff if I stay in a cabin.

Tent camping can be fun. There was this campground in Tennessee.....

That looks like good times to me. A horse that size must really burn some fuel.

How do you control emissions? Being in 2nd place takes a whole new meaning here.

I have never used a roll chart but it looks very clear and easy to understand. At speed and wore down from rocks, ruts and what not could be different.
I'm worried that my map skills will be little use in the mountains of N.C.
And I have no doubt my GPS skills are lacking.
But just as there are no bad motorcycles I don't expect any bad roads. Can't wait till Monday.

Roll Charts are ready

Just finished up the 3 day roll chart route sheets. Easy to use with way point verification, turn arrows and resets. This is going to be a great ride.

Dig your route Andy! Ridden most of it, but see a few new things too I've never discovered! I've recently moved to Tellico Plains from Knoxville and my wife and I own the Farmhouse Inn, a bed and breakfast inn on the historic town square (couple doors down from the bakery, Tellico Grains). Anybody wanting to do this loop is more than welcome to spend a night or two with us, and you can leave your truck/trailers. I'm also working on some "loops" selfishly centered around Tellico Plains, but will have some street bike, supermoto, and adv/enduro bike routes. Kyle

Thanks for the note. We need to get your business on the map. Send me your address and GPS coordinates. I will add a waypoint on the next revision. Feel free to post a note on the SM500 Facebook page.

Farmhouse Inn is at 305 Veterans Memorial Dr. (or Highway 165, depending on the map database) Tellico Plains.
N35.36516, W84.29758.

Oh, I tried going through Tatham Gap today, it was closed on the south side into Andrews, anybody know how long that's been closed and why?
