Hmm, looks rather tall and skinny. Could be the perspective though. I will say that some of the suspension mounting points look a little fragile. I would expect a little beefing up prior to January.

Would it be expected, that they would have made a vehicle to test geometry before beefing?

Cool2 Pug DKR breaks cover...

Well after all the Peugeot rumours during Dakar '14... the paparazzi visit by Super Seb, all of the speculation abou what they would develop? 2WD or FOUR... and all of the cloak and dagger of the Red Bull realease in Beijing, the announcement of El Matador and Le Mudboi as drivers... the defection of Perfecthansel from ¨X¨Raid, Cyril & Stephane's billy cart derb debut... and now;

THE DRK PUG working test prototype turns a wheel for the PR cameras!

Hmmmm...? A 2WD rear wheel drive, with double wishbone/coil over independant suspension on all corners, big 37" tires with on the fly auto inflate, a 3.2 liter V6 twin tubo diesel motor (mid/rear mounted) with 6 speed sequential gearbox, carbon fiber monocoque chassis featuring ground clearance, approach and departure angles like that of a rock crawler... and it weighs in at @ 1300 kg's?

Is this some weird ultimate alternative experiment by the Frenchies... or a cutting edge design for the future, featuring the best of both worlds...?

The V6 diesel engine should rev freely, yet still give great torque (twin turbo) over a broad range and economy. 6 speed sequential transmission to keep the pot stirring (low/low first for the crap stuff and a close ratio 2nd thru 5th perhaps?).

I agree with Doyle that the suspension arms look "spindly"... (as compared to other similar state of art designs ). Is this some new "unobtanium" material... or just a testbed design as Beechum suggests it could be...?

But regarding the suspension... it looks like the new "PUG" sits very high; in terms of static sag? Conventional off road racing "Buggy" designs like most US SCORE/Baja Class 1's or the SMG Dakar 2WD's run considerably more sag/squat than what this new Peugeot appears when stationary?

In the pictures it appears to sit veru "tall" (nowhere near the wheel drop of say RG Gordini's new lil'Hummer). Sure it gives great ground clearance... but from the photo's and breif video, it looks very "tippy toe" to drive... and if I am not mistaken... they park it on it's ear in the final sequence (off camera ). I wonder if Cyril was driving (again? )

Other first impressions... It is "BIG"... but it's small (ie. it uses an optimal amount of the space to house all of the componentry). A few things I wonder is;

Where is the room for ONE spare (much less two ore three?) of those huge Michelin 37" tires inside the body work...? In the rear (looks tight). Under the front hood (hard to access up high like, and not - a lot - of space.

Another thing; does the 1300 kg include ALL the mandatory gear (air jack system? sand mats and recover gear etc.). At the moment the "lights" on this test mule are just decals...

I looks like and awesome first working prototype/test rig... I'm sure ther is heaps of development/testing to come... the frogs are not here to muck about - the stakes just got raised a notch or two!

Question Puegeot to challenge for win at DAKAR '15...?

Well here's RG's firt impression (based on the video and photo's) over at raceDezert.com

Not with this package they they won't, they have a lot of design problems I see, it's going to be a long summer for them, I know they have the budget but experience is important and whoever designed this car doesn't have off road experience, it's going to be a handful to drive. Looks like another f1 designer did it

Below is a video link from our testing , we are working hard and smart this year.

Only 1300kg for the Peugeot is

even a Polaris SXS/UTV in Dakar trim is 1000kg give or take a bit

the other SXS/UTV analogy is the stance...................tall, narrow, long travel, high ride height...............that's a recipe for turning turtle that gets repeated ervery day in redneck UTV world

But I'm sure Carlos and Peter know how to drive around that characteristic

Yeah... they hand it to "lab rabbit" Cyril to test drive first...

Can we pin this one to the wall somewhere and revisit it after January 2015 when RG finishes behind the Peugeot? That would be classic. Cause, you know, Minis are for girls and all that crap.

Earmarked and catalogued in the library trophy shelf...

... yep, right up there alongside other "Grandios statement" Awards and the various "Humble Pie Eating Competition" Blue Ribbons, from the kind folk at Dakar Inc.

Seem's like his 2nd year in with the lil' Hummer, and RG has a methodical approach - and above all - time - to test/ R&D his new car...

2015 could be the one man band of team SPEED Gordini vs the Army of X-Raid drones from MINI vs the neveau French PUGS on the block and the Seth Efrikaan TOYOTAS.

I like the guy for his tenacity, but..... I wondered while watching the clip, if this revolutionary methodical approach was something he just learned.
