Hand on knee question

So I'm on a DR650, ATGATT, and I wave to every rider I see, I'm just a happy guy. However, this has happened on more than one occasion and was wondering what it meant, if anything? When I wave, they remove their hand from the handlebar and place it palm down on their knee. I'm not bashing anyone, just asking if there is a meaning. The riders that have done this are the H-D, no gear guys, although one rider today had mirrored sunglasses, if that is any consolation. Is it a suble way to say I see you but I don't formally acknowledge you? Wave or no wave, don't care, just wondering if there is a meaning. Educate me, I'm a noob.

The way you describe it, seems like they are snubbing you. They might not consider your dirtbike in street's clothing a 'real bike.' Wouldn't worry about it.

Or... they just don't wave. Why be bothered if someone doesn't wave? It isn't a requirement. If it is such, it rather dilutes its original intent and takes away the meaning. I really don't care if I wave, nor if someone doesn't wave back if I do. All the "he snubbed me", "I don't count", or fill-in-the-blank politics crap doesn't belong on the bike. I'm there to ride and have fun!

The best thing to do in that case is to wave like a maniac, like you're thinking, "I guess they don't see me. I better REALLY wave." Or I let go of both handlebars and give them the two-hand, six-gun, "you-da-man!" wave.

If you're just not waving, why do anything besides leave your hand where it is?

As a BMW rider, we are the royalty of bike riders. The proper wave is to hold the palm inward and turn the forearm in place.

Wave to the peasants... check the pearls... wave to the peasants.... check the pearls.

As a Buell rider, the proper wave is to indicate with one's fingers how many of one's parts have vibrated off and landed in front of oncoming traffic.

Wave horizontally if leaving no oil slicks, and vertically if leaving oil slicks.

They are only out when the sun is shining, anyways. I guess their 'real bikes' don't like to get wet.

Who is to say the other isn't enjoying their ride? Why assume that? Again, maybe they don't wave. Just because they don't doesn't automatically mean they are "mean", "dissing you", or are unhappy in any way. You seem to be turning a "friendly gesture" into a requirement.

If they don't wave, that's fine, a lot of riders don't, as I said before, I don't care. The intentional movement of the hand to the knee is not 'not waving' it is an intentional move to possibly diss (not a mind reader). That move in itself possibly demonstrates an attitude on their part. Perhaps it also displays an attitude on my part, also. Maybe I wave just out of spite.

If they ignored him it would be one thing, but they are instead deliberately making a gesture of disrespect.

Rather than making an issue out of it I'd suggest just ignoring them. If that's their attitude they're not worth your time.
