They've got a thread here asking if anyone waves at the moto cops, and do they wave back. Apparently only about half of the cops wave back

I don't expect cops to wave, it's hardly professional, but I've had a fair amount of success with head nods.

I just got back from about a 60 mile trip around Phoenix, nothing special, just doing errands. When I left it was relatively cool and I was feeling good so I waved at a Phx. moto-cop. He totally snubbed me, or maybe didn't see my wave. (I choose to believe the latter). Then, I was in Glendale, hot tired, on the verge of passing out and damned if a Glendale moto-cop didn't wave at me!! I was so surprised, I didn't even return the wave. Now I feel bad

i don't wave at moto cops. i'm afraid one of them is going to be a dick and pull me over and give me a ticket for taking my hand off the bars.

I was talking to one couple of weeks ago. The moto cops here have the new KTM 1190 adv, and I've got the 990 adv. We had a good chin wag about the bikes, a nice guy.

I only return waves.

One exception- a few weeks ago we were out in California, visiting our daughter and future S-I-L. We had rented a K1600GT and they were each on their 600's.
Near Mono Lake a couple of CHP motor officers passed us in the other direction. I couldn't help myself- I waved first- they waved back.

BUT, I wish nobody did it at all- WTF is this about anyhow? Do convertible auto drivers wave at each other? Antique auto drivers?

If you drive a "cult" car, you'll often get a wave or a nod if you pass another driver of the same car.

I've even seen drivers of older Miatas flip up their headlights at each other on several occasions.

Jesus Christ DC, lighten up! Easy to tell you're from the East Coast!

Rumpled your panties, I see

My post was misjudged eh?

I live in an open pipe, pirate costume area. Cruisers outnumber sportbikes and standards by 20 or 30 to one. Wave fatigue to say the least.

On a Sunday ride I will pass hundreds of bikes going in the opposite direction. I need to be west coast friendly to all of them?

Maybe I need one of these.....

i'm in no way saying motocops are generally bad people.

but i don't know if the one coming the other way is that 1 out of 100 who is gonna be a dick and give me a ticket or not. so, i don't take my hand off the bar to wave at them.

i very highly doubt the other 99 are offended or hurt by my not waving at them at anyway.

I used to own an International Harvester Scout II. I got waves all the time. I'm guessing they were so excited to see another Scout they just got all giddy and started waving. Yes, often, birds of a color flock together.
