the 690 SMC has a fixed front caliper, no sliders, hence the confusion. thanks for the clarification!

Spent two days servicing the bike.....

Spent the last couple of days servicing the bike in preparation for my ride through Kazakhstan, Russia and into Mongolia. The last 21,000km and over 50% of it off-road has been rough on the bike. I must say a huge thanks to the guys from Agent Orange KTM who let me have full use of their workshop and tools for 2 whole days while I got everything sorted. I cannot thank them enough for their help and hospitality during my stay in Almaty, top blokes.

In!

You've been talking about a trip like this for a long time, and I think the lesson for the rest of us, is to do what we dream of while we still can!

Funny, I got one of those recently and absolutely love it. When I recently rode 20x to CA, I chose that over the Rally suit for the same two reasons.

The videos are awesome- good work with that!

I wish I had known there was a KTM shop that looked like that when I was in KZ. I changed my oil in a dirt parking lot of a friends house. Oh well

Yesterday was an experience. We spent the day exploring an old nuclear testing ground in Kazakhstan and the ghost towns that surround it. Bombed bridges and craters show evidence of huge explosions and bunkers and viewing stations still stand proud, even if a little bare. It was only when we saw two men in radiation suits with Geiger Counters that we thought it was about time to leave! Most of us don't even know these places exist, incredible to see them in person.

Very cool!

Of course you guys might now look like ready-brek kids... but conversely, it could help with the next race too - flux capacitor charged!

Spent the last 6 days exploring the very remote Altai region of Russia. It's been amazing but one thing that is not amazing is the connection to the internet! I will endeavour to catch up soon with updates but for now I leave you with Episode 5 of Races to Places.
