1st morning breakfast in town. Locals ride quads for transportation here.
Those wondering about the pink ribbons, they are attached to cloths pins. Used to tag any gate or fence we have to open. sweep rider needs to close that gate.

one of the many roads that follow a fence line, looks like another 'why are we stopping again' stop. must have been shade from that tree

this was right after the badger encounter, an hour earlier we were in those snow capped mt's in the distance. Amazing looking back to how far traveled in a short time cross country.

last pic for day, was going post some more river crossing pics but it's been covered...and those white legs,,,ehh

Well MM and company you've done it again... an outstanding start to what looks to be an outstanding ride. Welcome Wetsider's to our backyard/ playground just don't give out to much detail. pictures yes but locations vague.

I knew I shouldn't have started on reading this as I am still in convalescence and sitting on the sidelines..... I am feeling like a lab around water and can't go in, so as a interim I am going to sip some barley pop and follow this with great delight. As WACHS said.... "Bring it"....... you may proceed.

Loving the unrehearsed commentaries while in motion.

Sorry for the delay. Here is Day 2!

June 15, 2014

Giddy up!

Woke up to Dan complaining about somebody splashing in the creek. He thought it was a monster or something. Tore down camp and headed out.

Everyone is excited to get started this am.

Here is Kelly packing up his kit into his new Hemisphere. Looks like a very nice setup.

Scott getting the last of it packed up.

Check out Bill’s tank bag.

Dan and Chuck are ready to ride.

The road ahead.

Waiting at an intersection. It looks like Scott is behind me now. We are starting to climb as we get closer to the Magic Mountain Ski Area in Idaho.

Now it is Dan behind me. That last section was a fun climb.

Beautiful stuff!

There is the ski area. The ATV trail we rode up was pretty tame at first but then got pretty rocky and loose. In the distant background is where we had come from this morning.

You can see some of the trail we had just come up on the ridgeline. Nice views from Pike Mountain.

Rode some more fun ATV trails and then hit a little snow trying to get to Monument Peak.

There is lots to explore around this area.

Some videos of a fun crossing.

Chuck

Dan

Kelly

Bill

Scott

I crossed it too but I am sure no one took any video. More remote 2 track as we headed south toward the Three Corners Monument of Idaho, Nevada, and Utah.

We are here.

There were several blooming cacti around. Here is one.

I found a geocache. Everything in it was rusty.

From here we tried to head east but ran into a No Trespassing sign at the gate to the Emery Ranch. On the Geocaching website, it mentions the rancher will give permission to cross. If you are considering travel thru the area, you might try contacting them. Because of the gate, we had to backtrack all the way to the easy water crossing. I am sure everyone blasted thru it. I know I did!

We took Trapper Creek Road all the way into Oakley where we all hoped there would be food, ice cream and fuel.

Unfortunately, everything in Oakley was closed. Luckily they have their fuel pump set up so you can pay at the pump 24hrs a day. We all filled up even tho we did not need to. We went over to the park and filled up our water bladders and had a rest while Scott rinsed out his prefilter.

Heading out of Oakley, we ran into another No Trespassing sign on the dirt road we were to head out on. We continued on and found another road taking us up to where we wanted to be. In the middle of a pretty steep climb, we found a downed tree. Chuck and I had shamed Dan into bringing his SuperSaw along so now was the time to use it.

He broke it. Maybe it was because he had his eyes closed?

Waiting for the next rider. In the background is Oakley.

It was a while so I walked down to a good spot to take some pics.

Bill

Scott and the DR.

I think Chuck may be doing a wheelie here.

I know Dan is!

Kelly

Since we had not had any food, we decided to start looking for a place to camp up in the hills. It was a fantastic area. First we stopped here for a bit to check it out.

It had a nice view.

And others had been here before.

But it was just too windy and exposed. It looked like we might be getting some weather soon judging from the clouds. We headed over the ridge and Dan found us a beautiful (but not flat) meadow to camp in. When we first looked at it some deer were there so that was apparentyl some sort of sign that it was a good spot.

Camp shots.

Mine on the left and Kelly’s on the right.

Dan

Bill

Scott

Chuck

High Camp. It is slightly above 8000 feet. This picture is from the next morning.

We gathered around the JetBoil and cooked up some tasty freeze dried meals before heading off to bed. What a great day!

Today’s tracks:

snoring and chili beef mac freeze dried internal combustion in a bag dinners

It was cold there (2nd day spot) over night partially freezing my water. Had every spare garment on in the 20deg bag that night. It had snowed enough on the mt. next to us that we decided not to ride up there in the AM.
