You guys and gals are safe. DSM8 and I are out of the area.

One question? What gives with the harley riders rideing at 10 - 15 under the speed limit and being dicks about being passed by a bike?
Other that that, we had some great fun riding! Sorry to see that the lakes are so low.

Thanks for the suggestions on a day ride—and the cautionary warning. I realized that I was missing the "990 essentials" otherwise known as skidplate and sidestand relocator, so I kept to the pavement.

Knoxville-Berryessa was an absolute blast.

We went last weekend, and last year. Haven't seen a dirt road the 990 can't handle north of Fort Bragg yet.

We actually took the USAL trail from HWY 1 to Shelter Cove, then Kings Peak all the way to Wilder Ridge this last weekend. USAL is in good shape this year with just a few deep dry ruts and rough spots.

You should also take Fort Bragg /Sherwood road from Fort Bragg to Willits.

DS Noob Looking to Tag Along

Hey Folks,

I'm looking for someone to go on day rides with who wouldn't mind a relative dual sport noob with a smaller bike tagging along. I'm in San Jose and just picked up an ‘08 Honda CRF230L and got her all ready to ride, and I would like to check out the local OHV trails (Hollister and Metcalf) but also any dual sport roads/trails that are do-able in a day from the Bay Area. I have a hitch carrier on my SUV and can drive to location, and I’ve got an auxiliary gas tank for the back rack so my range is decent. I obviously can't keep up with the big boys and girls on the pavement for too long, but I should be able to keep up with bigger bikes on the trails. I have street bike experience, and I rode dirt bikes a lot during my youth, now I’m looking to get into dual sporting in the area. I'm mid-40s, low key, easy to be around, and willing to learn the ropes and the landscape.

Cheers, Matt

Might be a bit short notice now, but did you check the Noob Ride thread out?
