Just got this today. I wanted one of these back in the 70's when I rode enduros, now I finally have one.

Doesn't the 495 hold the record for fasted production dirt bike?

85 RZ350KR I rebuilt a few years ago...

I found it in the back of a guy's garage as a clapped out rolling chassis and several milk crates full of funk. Tore it back to the frame and started over. I even took an autobody night class at the local voc school and painted it myself.

Respect, man. A major tip of the hat to you for resurrecting such a wonderful bike.

Thanks, guys. All it takes is time and money......

The previous owner thought he was going to be the next Kenny Roberts and tried to race it. As you can imagine, it wasn't the best thing for the bike. I rescued it and stripped it down to the frame, cracked the motor open, and started over. The nice bonus was it came with the factory solo cowl you see on the bike now which is nearly unobtanium (there are aftermarket re pops available though).

Compared to modern sport bikes, it is pretty tame, but there is nothing like coming into a corner on a back road, snicking the tranny down a few gears, and coming on the pipe on the way out.

I also have several RD350's in the stable waiting for differing amounts of love . Those will have to wait until my 75 R90S project is done.

Super job on that crate bike, Scotty. I was going to ask about that bikini fairing. It was a nice deal, the PO storing it in a box for posterity.

Thumb A new take on an old theme

My most recent finished build - based on a 1971 Yamaha DT1 Frame, DT2 motor, and a lot of other interesting parts. Not a trailer queen, but a fun rider!

You can follow the emerging build thread at THIS LINK
