Damn Unsure, here you are again. Now claiming that you grew up! After our verbal fisticuffs on the "What is Harley doing thread", I couldn't resist giving you a small poke No hard feelings on my part and I hope to hear more from you.

If you don't wave, you are a horrible person and you don't deserve nice things.

I received the best wave yet today. I was riding true back roads through Amish farms and come around a corner to find a 7-8 year old Amish girl in braids cruising towards me barefoot on a three wheel scooter. She gives me the wave. I don't believe you could have sandblasted the smile off my face.

Whether you like the wave or hate it, that was a great way to end an incredibly sucky day at work.

While coming to a stop at a T intersection in town, there was a little kid on the sidewalk on the other side, in front of me. He was what, 3-4 years old I guess?

As I was approaching, the kid stopped walking (was with his father) and was looking in my direction and seemed exicted or something. I saw his father turning around to ask him, I suppose, to follow. Then the kid said something to his father, pointing his little finger in my direction (I was stopped then) and I'm pretty sure he said something like "look dad, a motosicle!"

It's when I decided to give him one of the most beautiful "thumbs up" ever!

Man...the smile on his little face! And the smile on mine! His father was laughing too.

It's for moment like this that I ride. This kid made my day.

I wave to everybody who's on a bike or scooter. I don't always get the return, but most do. When I wave, I hold my hand way out to the side, palm forward, hand slightly angled up. It's kind of like a cool version of the nerdy newbie wave from the "secret motorcycle hand greeting" article. I do it this way most of the time because when I first started riding I realized how hard it was for others to see my hand when I'm wearing black leather and textile all over. I've got hand guards now too, so the lifted fingers off the grip doesn't do much either.

My nerdy wave to the photogs on 129 back in 2008:

I'm going to start doing that...

Also, scooters and kids on bicycles always get a wave.
On my way to work there's a coffee shop that has a group of little old ladies that sit outside and have coffee most mornings (weather permitting). They get a honk and a wave and they always wave back.

The best wave I ever got was from a copper in Baton Rouge - he saw my ADV sticker, wound down his window and gave me the ADV salute :). And all this at 50mph.

OR...give them the ADV salute
