Well there's Robert's (I think) Cafe and Meat Market over in Orange, on MLK, almost Louisiana. I think he had some BBQ. Not sure, I was there for the fried Boudain balls. Delicious. And I didn't even know Boudain had balls. Took home some smoked bacon, and it was delightful.

Damn, now I'll have to plan a ride to Blanco when the weather allows for all day riding. Did you have the pork chop???

Lockhart Locations

Well since I take a beautiful scenic toll road ride daily form Hutto to Lockhart these days I had to start trying the BBQ there. Happy to report that both Smitty's and Mad Jack's rock so far on brisket sandwiches. Mad Jack's .5 points above Smitty's on a 0-10 scale. I can't compare it to any of these other places as I am a noob to BBQ :-) Now if there were some microbrewery's to evaluate, I'd be of more value.

No on the BBQ, yes to the great home cookin' plate lunches. Boudin is a very personal thing.

I'm a steelworker. Well, not really. I'm essentially building my moto endurance (from the dang summer in Texas commute) and helping manage some new steel building construction projects likely to come out leaning to one side or another :-) Getting in shape for a late Oct ride to UT or CO. I suppose I should get serious like you guys about this BBQ rating work while I am there as well.

Hey, been awhile sine I've been in here. I've been to LM in Taylor, very good, been to Kruez's, hated it. Still havent made it to Franklin. Not standing in that line. Nope.

Anyway, tried a new joint here in Austin. Stiles Switch is the name, on the corner of N. lamar and Brentwood, just north of the Yellow Rose, everybody knows where the YR is. Got a brisket plate, 11.99. Beef was ok, got the lemon vinegar cole slaw, it sucked, didnt even finish it, tater salat was decent. Place was busy on a Friday about 1 pm. They serve booze.

Worst part was the loud ass music they had playing. No likey. Wont be going back.

Been there twice, Early afternoon there is no crowd or music. Beef ribs were very good. 2nd time it was crowded and noisy. Got brisket sandwiches take out and it was better than average.

BoomTown BBQ

Beaumont, first time yesterday. Not impressed by ribs that were still cold from being in the fridge. Very meaty but being cold just really killed the experience. Sauce was very excellent and potato salad was good, might give them a second try but only if in the neighborhood.

La Barbecue - Austin

2 weeks ago I went to LaBarbeque in Austin for the first time.
It's a food traier down on East 1st.

Line was around the whole area - but there was a keg of lonestar for patrons while they wait and a band playing

By the time i got to the front, they were out of ribs, brisket, sausage and almost everything else.

Settled on Chopped brisket and pulled port (all that was left)
Hard to make a real educated guess since that had been stewing in a pile of its own juices... but.

Brisket: 7 (very tasty, but need to check again)
Pulled pork: 5
They have some good 'tater salad and pickled onions that were different from other things i've seen but were REALLY tasty.

Need to go back...

No pics, I was too busy watching coeds jigglin'

Opies - Spicewood

This weekend we rode around in between Austin and Fredericksburg on Saturday and ended up at Opies BBQ.

Sauce: Ok
Sausage: 5 (nothing special)
Baby Back ribs (not common around here): 6 - pretty tasty
Brisket: 6 - ok flavor but a bit bland, tender.
BEEF RIBS: 9!!! Holy Meat pillow of heaven on a stick. In the top 3 beef ribs i've ever had.

Really good tater-tot casserole.

Its a bit pricey if you ask me though.

Bonus points for having some of the better BBQ t-shirts that i've seen
