Way fire in Sequoia

At approximately 3:00 pm today, Monday, August 18th, the Way Fire was reported. The fire has been updated to 3,195 acres.
The Way fire is located in Wofford Heights on the North side of Hwy 155 on lands administered by the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and Kern County Fire Department, and managed under Unified Command with the preceeding agencies.

The fire established itself in a drainage and proceeded to quickly spread uphill to Split Mountain, while simultaneously burning south (further into Wofford Heights and the Wildland Urban Interface) and east to Kernville (again, further into Wildland Urban Interface areas).

Road closures are in effect on Hwy 155 at Sierra Vista, Adams, Mountain View and Rock Haven,and Sgt Lane. Residents seeking information on returning/leaving their homes need to make contact with the Kern County Sheriff Officer assigned to their road. Recommended evacuations in Kernville are Burlando Road, Frontier Lane, and Plater Road.

Structures continue to be threatened. Some are believed to have burned-no known estimate on number(s) at this time.
No injuries have been reported.

The evacuation center is located at Kern Valley High School in Lake Isabella on Erskine Creek Road. American Red Cross is on hand at the High School Evac. Center to care for evacuees.

A T-1 Incident Management Team has been ordered to manage this incident.

Bridge, Highway 49 South of Triangle Road near Bootjack, 10 miles east of Mariposa in Mariposa County. Immediate structure threat, evacuations in progress.

The fire is burning at a rapid rate of spread in the Chowchilla river drainage. Numerous additional resources requested, including the Very Large Air Tanker (VLAT)

USFS units are providing ground and air support.

Per Caltrans: SR 49 is closed 13 mi south of the jct of SR 140 /at Chowchilla Rd/ (Mariposa Co) - due to a wildfire - motorists are advised to use an alternate route.

September 5, 2014 at 4:16 PM Fire is moving rapidly towards the east fork in the Chowchilla drainage.

September 5, 2014 at 4:09 PM Air attack estimates fire on one side at 150 acres+, unknown for the other side due to heavy smoke.

September 5, 2014 at 3:54 PM VLAT 911 has completed its drop, will load and return to the incident. The left flank of the fire is the highest priority - multiple structures just ahead of the fire.

September 5, 2014 at 3:50 PM Resource order for 10 private dozers has been placed.

September 5, 2014 at 3:46 PM Fire is moving towards structures now, VLAT is on scene and will be utilized for structure protection.

September 5, 2014 at 3:45 PM This will be a significant event, per scanner traffic. Crew temporarily trapped is reporting no injuries and they are in a safe spot.

September 5, 2014 at 3:20 PM Multiple spot fires up to 1/2 mile ahead of the fire reported, major structure threat and immediate threat to lives and safety. Air tankers are on no divert, will stay with this incident only.

September 5, 2014 at 3:06 PM Now two VLATs assigned to the fire. Air attack is reporting very active fire behavior, high potential for erratic fire behavior.

the Bridge fire (above) is 75% contained and will not burn up Miami Trails area

Yesterday the monitored meadow fire in Yosemite flared up big time...











Also another fire was started on the edge of the park which is called the Montgomery incident buring near el portal near two other burned areas...

Thirdly a small flare up in the burned French fire perimeter.


Crazy year here with something like 9 fires nearby or within 40 miles of me...

This area can't seem to get a break this fire season...400 homes threatened, ten lost so far.

We are good, its 7 miles away and laid down for the night. Hopefully some lines have been set and with air support we should be OK.
