given the way most welders work here, i doubt that they charge by linear measurement. most likely they will look at the job and give you a price.

i will make some inquiries though. is it a complicated weld or simple? what do you need welded and where in nicaragua are you/will you be?

Here in Len is one place with tig aluminium welding.
I don't know the price.
What do you need? I can ask them how much it will be.

Question Nica Bike Resources

Like he said. Im a big nica fan, just spent nine months there but I was traveling by bus and not paying attention to motocycle issues. I'm returning soon but this time on a KLR and I may be in the market for fresh tires and whatnot by the time I get there. Recommendations for sources in the neighborhood? Managua no doubt would be the place. And that would be easy enroute to Ometepe. Appreciate any tips from the nica biking veterans. Thanks in advance.

i stopped by there the other day to find a battery for my DRZ. Nice place you got there. If you ever need someone to test drive a motorcycle, let me know!
As far as my battery, it's slim pickings in Nica. Hard to believe its such a rare size.

I may be in that city tomorrow! If I have a chance I will try to drop in.

Also, does anyone know about the condition of the road to the Pearl Lagoon? I'm on a VStrom 650 with 50/50 road/dirt tires, but I am alone and don't have a ton of dirt experience.

Any tips on other roads to ride or things to see would be very welcome.

When you are there can you see if tires to fit your bike exist (think they are the same size as the Super Tenere), what brands and approx cost. We are trying to figure out where we can get new tires in C America as we will be departing Seattle with new rubber (2up) and may come up short.

While in Nica if you have time...be sure to make the short detour to San Juan Del Sur and surrounding area...wish we had more time there....you can also easily and inexpensively do Ometepe by ferry....we did it overnight on a DR650 and it was worth it.

I'll see what I can look for, although my suggestion would be Guatemala City for tires. I put Heidenau Scout K60s on from the BMW dealer there and they installed them relatively cheaply. They seemed to have all sizes. I hear Guatemala City is the best spot in central america for tires, and would agree. Just be careful in traffic, I was hit by another motorcycle and it was a mess (I was fine and so was my bike).

Thanks for the tips! I just arrived yesterday and have 30 days to wander.

All suggestions are welcome

the road to laguna de perlas is fine for a vstrom. however, there will be sections that might be a bit trying on the suspension and you will likely bottom out if you ride too fast.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, the road is not known to be the safest part of the country. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ride the road at night or close to it. there are plenty of robberies at gunpoint (AK-47's) though people tend not to talk about them. They almost always occur at night.

if you plan on staying overnight, the best and imho the only option is casa ulrich. the owner, fred, is a good friend and a great chef--trained in europe. https://vianica.com/hotels/346/hotel-casa-ulrich

there are no services along the road and few people. about 80 km from laguna de perlas, there are a few buildings at a left turn in the road headed east, where you can stop for a few and get a snack and a cold drink.

late on, the turn to laguna occurs with almost no signage. if you miss it, you will end up in kukra hill.

i can send you a gps track of the route if you pm me your email.
