There was a time when Kit Car manufacturers didn't have to deal with many of the requirements by selling in kit form with "some assembly required". The good ones were almost plug and play. All you had to provide was a donor vehicle with a title. Really didn't matter if any of the parts came from it as long as the title was clean, you stamped the vin # somewhere and had the kit car documents. Good Luck!

It doesn't look to be a honda motor or any other internal combustion type. That looks to be electric.

That article is pretty funny... "The company" some dude in Russia selling paper plans for $50.

If we decide to produce it there will be a bit of refinement... ok a fucking LOT of refinement.

So my question is this... if it was pretty... had name brand tires... a Honda e-start engine... and didn't look like you would die riding it... retail for $1795-1995 US... would it sell ?

The last time I looked the cheapest rokons were 5 to 6 grand, so yea that market would probably jump at a less expensive, quality competetor, just dont refine it to the point it loses the essence of what it is. simple effective and light. ironbasher

The U.S. version of the Rokon, called the Rokon Trail-Breaker, is made in New Hampshire. It's featured in the July issue of Dirt Rider magazine. I'm looking at the article right now.

Unfortunately, it costs $7625 and the dry weight is 218 lbs. Yet at that weight, it still floats. It's fitted with a 208cc, 7-hp Kohler four-stroke single. The seat height is 33", it holds 2.7 gallons of gas, and the top speed is 35 mph. The hollow rims hold 2.5 gallons of fuel or water each, but won't float unless filled with air.

I agree with you.... no way. Can't see me having any use for it, even if it's $500. I have jet skis if I need something that floats. You may get it licensed here, but will get run over by a jacked up golf cart when you can't get it over 15 mph!

The last test I saw on a Rokon it was said to be 235lbs or so. Cycle World just tested 1.

I like the Russian guy's website, especially where he is asking for seed money. Hell, why not? It's going to be innovation from people who are not in the norm to design and build something out of the norm.

I have a 2005 Rokon Trailbreaker. My manual says 208lbs dry. The newer models have a slightly larger/heavier engine and heavier front suspension forks. Mine is still about double the weight of the Russian Taurus. Of course, it also has a longer wheelbase and a nice cargo rack behind the seat.

I just took the Rokon out for a ride this morning, up a very steep trail to an old mine site. No way would my 2014 WR250R Yamaha have made it up there, even with much lower-than-factory gearing and a Tubliss/D606 in back. Many parts of the trail are steeply stacked decomposed granite gravel. The WRR---or any bike that drives with only the rear wheel---struggles with that sort of trail. Of course, the WRR can buzz down dirt roads at highway speeds and make legal hops on paved sections, both of which are out of reach for the Rokon.
