A major update has been made in the Harlan to Jellico section. Less blacktop more trail.

Yes, the updates are uploaded the same time that it's announced.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together and keep it updated.

I'm hoping to do the Daniel Boone National Forest portion of the KAT this year. I'm coming from Ohio and plan to cross the river at Portsmouth. I was wondering if you had enough info to recommend an off-pavement route from where 377 enters in the north down to Slade.

Sorry, I don't have anything that far north but this is a nice little trail just north of Slade. Would make a good starting point.

Thanks! Any little bit helps.

Are the National Forest vehicle use maps worth a damn when trying to determine what's paved and what's dirt?

They are OK but a little hard to read. I use Mapsourse Roads and Rec.

8 days until departure from Cincy. Can't wait. I think we will take the scenic western side first and return on the difficult eastern side.

This application can help if the roads are state and/or county maintained -

http://maps.kytc.ky.gov/photolog/?config=LocalRoads

Gravel and dirt roads are shown as dashed blue lines. Forest Service roads may not be shown as no KY funds go toward their maintenance, but many roads in the Daniel Boone are in fact county roads.
