No doubt about it. With the limited suspension travel and lack of a skid plate on the Vee, I would have thoroughly trashed the beast. Glad I took the XRR instead of the Vee. I think it fit in perfectly with the big girls even on the pavement sections.

The XR650R is still one of the best. Until my 990R, it was my favorite bike E start and Honda would sell the crap out of them.

Fun time would be an understatement. Crosby was a real hard 70 miles today. Fun stuff. 7 flats WTF? Great to see everyone contribute to getting us going again.

Once the weather cools down there is normally a big ride out of Deland to Ocala on small bikes.

More CO

For the Sunday ride, we decided to take the big bikes (Johno was 2 up on the 1190 ) to American Mtn via Cement Creek, Reno Divide, and Italian Creek...

Lots of wankerin' going on...

Don't be dissin' the Klit wear...

On Cement Creek road...

We get to the Reno Divide fork on Cement Creek and I chase Jerry on the 990 toward Italian Creek. Sorry, no pics of Reno Divide. Had way too much fun getting some air on the water breaks.

We get to Italian Creek and I remember the intersection from last year's Westfest ride. I tell the fellas the road wasn't too bad for small bikes. It could get interesting with big bikes and especially 2up. Quite a few rocky areas but the big girls did fine

Quite a few jeepers on the trail...

On the way up to American Mountain...

American Mtn...

Frenchie doing the Frenchy... :ymca

On the way back to Gunnison for lunch...

After lunch in Gunnison, Jerry and I take off to take a different route to Schofield Pass. We break off from John, Steve, & Tawana and head towards Crested Butte. We were supposed to eat dinner at about 6:30pm but told them that if we didn't make it back in time, to go on without us.

Some pics on the way to Schofield...

We made it back to Schofield but decided that the route was too easy.

We ran into a couple of locals and they said that if we wanted a challenge that we should go through Devil's Punchbowl towards the town of Marble and slab it back to Kebler Pass towards Crested Butte. Challenge, eh? It was definitely a bit knarly.

Close up...

The road towards Devil's Punchbowl crossed a creek, went about 1/4 mile down a knarly rock garden complete with nasty dropoffs, towards a wooden bridge...

This is at the wooden bridge... doesn't look too bad does it?

The rest of the road towards Marble was nice. Just the right mix of big rocks, small rocks, and medium size rocks...

Nice structures and scenery along the way...

We made it to Marble shortly after 5pm and asked a few locals at a BBQ joint the quickest way to get back to Crested Butte. After getting the info, we hopped on the bikes and took off. About a minute after we left, Jerry had a low side coming around a corner and f'd up his foot and shoulder. A quick check revealed no bleeding or obvious broken bones. In obvious pain, he wanted to keep going until we got back to the apartment.

A few pics on the way back to CB...

Got back to CB and Jerry took off his left boot. Fookin foot was twice the size of his right foot and his right shoulder didn't look quite right. Dang it! That would end Jerry's CO encounter. He would fly home the next day.

More later...

Nice pics Eloy, been wanting to get over that way, Schofield and American Mtn have been on the radar for awhile.

So you did Devil's Punchbowl on big bikes, figures. I hear it's easier going the other way.
