Didn't have a big turnout at 9:00 am but I met JohnBryer and fjrrider2004 at the BMW shop just as about 30 of them were taking off for their street ride up to the mountains.
Didn't want to scare them with the camera so I refrained.
We hit the road, keeping to all the back roads and braving the 44 degree morning.
Starting to warm up a bit
We met Ron out at the entrance of Uwharrie and then just proceeded to explore the miles of gravel roads it has to offer.
Time to shed a layer
A little farther down the road we discover a nice view of Badin Lake
John gets a bird’s eye view
Ron strikes a pose
I take a break from all the strenuous photography
Enough water, where’s the dirt ?
But all roads led to water
We ran into ScottDavis, another local KLR rider just out shakin' down his bike before he embarks on the TransAmerica Trail, and just had to get a group shot
Three of the guys had other commitments so Ron and I bought a pass for the OHV tails and decided to get dirty.
Best $5.00 I've spent this week.
Time to get offroad
We finally find our element
And Ron takes full advantage
The trails run in both directions, but we always seemed to be going the wrong way
I didn’t feel good crossing the mud pit with 400lbs of loaded KLR
But I just followed the guy with the bald stock tire
Even though he IS a Wildman
And the fun continued
We stumbled across a couple of broken down four wheelers in need of some tools, and being the good samaritans we KLR riders are, we stopped to help.
That chewed up a lot of daylight so we decided to call it a day
The rest of those fabulous trails will have to wait for another time
It was time to go home.
Oh give me a home, where the Buffalo roam…
…and the Boys with their KLR’s play…
