Boojum's GSPD Pannier Project.....
Since I've had my 92 GSPD for a month or so now, I thought it was time to add a "Boojumized" addition to the bike. I like Aluminum Panniers, and I don't really care for the stock bags, SO, what to do. I really did NOT want to drop alot of $$ in this project, so shopping & doing some research I went.
I decided to use the stock BMW mounts for now, until I can get a buddy (Paylrider) aka Wheelie Paul to reinforce the rear subframe for me So I ordered the Touratech 15mm "Puck Kit" to use on the Panniers for mounting. Ordered and received. Next, Panniers! I did NOT want to go too Big, so I decided to go with the same size bag on each side. I found some Panniers on KLR650.com, however they were "Out of Stock" and being "Redesigned". Spoke with the guy at KLR650, and they were due in the first week of April, so I bought a pair, and waited for them to come in. Some of you may know I have a 99-GS as well as my PD, and my TT Panniers on the 99 have truck bedliner sprayed on, about 2 1/2" - 3" up from the bottom. It takes away from that Aluminum Box look. YES! After thinking of this I noticed "SHERPA" had done this to his Panniers also, SO.........I guess he beat me to it! Anyway, Step one, I received the Panniers ""DELIVERED"" to my door for less than $300 They are the "Tahoe" Cut boxes, and measure out a bit larger than my 35 Ltr. TT box on the 99-GS. I guess they are about 37 Ltrs. each. I then purchased the Bedliner for the task. I found this stuff..........![]() This stuff went on well, with a good coverage, and not an overly "Rough" feel to it, once applied. I taped the Panniers off where I wanted to spray them, and set to it................. ![]() Your looking at the outward edge of the Pannier, and shows the cut on the outside edge of the box. ![]() Once "Bed Linered" I mounted the pucks. I did not take any shots of this, due to needing ALL MY HANDS, and a couple from my brother. Once they were on, it was time to mount the boxes for the first time. Looked good, so I cleaned them up from fingerprints, and started doing my favorite part.....Laying out the stickers I had for the Panniers! ![]() ![]() With the first round of Stickers affixed, I was ready for a ride. I also have room for many more! So, That's my Pannier Project I did on my PD, this past weekend. Panniers: $293.00 (Delivered to my door) Undercoating: $7.98 (3M Professional) Touratech Mounting Hardware: $116. Now, What's Next? Boojum!
