I was going to use the SNELL-approved helmet tape, but man that stuff is expensive and nearly impossible to find, so I went with the cheaper DOT-approved stuff. Or, if you feel like risking it, I suppose medical tape could work.
Smart ass For some reason my mind didn't gravitate towards medical, I was thinking of all the ones that wouldn't work (scotch, duct, masking, electrical, etc.). I'll have to give this a shot too, thanks for the suggestion.
Bringing this back from the dead, but does anyone know if the chin curtain for the FX-39 works with the fly trekker?
Ive got this helmet in matte black and love it! Im thinking about replacing the clear shield with either the light smoke or dark smoke possibly even mirror? If anyone has a different shield fitted, could you please post up a pic to help me decide what one to get, cheers.
I think the external sun shield from AFX FX39 should fit. It works surprisingly well. http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/afx-fx-39-half-outer-sun-shield
or use this thing? http://www.motorcycle-superstore.co...kker-ds-helmet-snow-breathbox?WT.ac=SLIsearch
Same here. I guess at first it feels weird. So much that I tried riding without the cheek pads. I was looking for after market thinner ones but now have the originals in and they feel good
If you want any protection at all from summertime sun glare, then definitely get the dark smoke. ..it's not too dark and i still sometimes wear a pair of gray Elvex Avion safety glasses under it to get even more shading.
I have had the Fly Trekker for almost 2 years. Other than being big and catching wind at high speeds I have found it very comfortable and great for DS riding. The cheek pads do interfere with some glasses but I haven't found it to be a big issue. It works well with goggles, and is vented well. Considering the low price I will probably buy another unless something else really impresses me. I have a large oval head and have a hard time finding comfortable helmets.
I have two of the hi vis Fly Trekkers and think highly of them. Many miles have I ridden under one or the other on long adventure journeys. A great value for a good solid helmet.
Well, I finally pulled my cheek pads and liner out to clean them(after three years) and found they need to be replaced. I checked several sites out and discovered the liners and cheek pads sre offered in different thicknesses for the different shell sizes. I cannot find any sizes on my liner or cheekpads. On revzilla the sizes are shown in "large" than with a mm size option. I no longer have the paperwork or box gor my helmet. Can any offer help on the mm size liner and cheek pads that come stock on a large model? I sent emails to Fly and Revzilla also. Thanks!
Inside the Fly catalog, in the helmet parts section, it should list which pads came 'stock' in each of the sizes of helmets. Most mail order places work only on electronically-fed part numbers rather than from catalogs. Check with your local dealer.
Revzilla came through with the answers-10mm head liner and 26mm cheek pads on a size large. Thanks Revzilla!
If anyone is looking for a deal on the black version of this helmet Woot has them for $84.99 us $5 shipping http://tools.woot.com/offers/fly-racing-trekker-dual-sport-helmet-s-xxl?ref=cnt_dly_img
I came to post the same thing - you beat me to it. I think I'm going to snag one. For that price, if it doesn't fit I can just keep it as a loaner or give it away...
I've got a couple thousand miles on my F/Trekker now. My only complaint is it isn't as good in cold weather as my Arai. It's more breezy inside (yes of course the vents are shut). When it's below 40F I'll wear something else.
