Oz/Kiwi KTM 640 ADV riders sign in here please.
Well, there seem to be a bunch of KTM 640 Adventures in this part of the world so maybe its time we got our own thread.
Post a photo or two, list of any mods and anything else of interest so others can see what's around. Pretty much all LC4 powered bike should be ok. And if you want to go global, you can post your KTM's location at the 640 ADV page at Frappr.com by going to this link (Mine's an '03 and its currently off the road so I'll post a photo when its back! )

oh yeah the mods -
Gps connected to a pocket pc (now mounted on H/bar) http://http://www.advrider.com/forum...d.php?t=104229 Higashi silencer - airbox side cover - rejet touratech roadbook - IMO rallye computer tires - Michelin Baja or Dunlop 908rr scotts steering damper, sub mounted pastrana fmx bars and 32mm risers ktm/tt zega panniers and racks carbon fibre frame guards 1997 model rallye tanks, need to make mounts for them. thats all I can think of. to do - heavier springs front and rear, maybe revalve too. find a decent way of protecting the fuel tank. the hepco and becker bars look like being the only option. or ute tray liner might do a custom dash. might get a kehin FCR 41mm if I cannot get the BST operating right maybe 3cm lower pegs. oh, and if anyone wants to donate a rallye style bashplate / tool box to the cause, send me a pm well thats all, I'm outa here.... 5.......

'05 Adventure
Love it!! Arty shot when new, courtesy of danger_dave:
![]() Mods are heated grips (sympatex/dual-star) under Pro-Grip gel grips, Emig Racing 28mm lowering links, fork pull-through 25mm, RHS caliper-ectomy in preparation for high guard fitment, Chain Gang 16/44 sprockets, and occasional KTM tank bag and sheepskin seatcover use. Running a Pirelli MT-21 on the rear and am mightily impressed cf. the Continental TKC80. The MT-21 is better on the dirt and seems better on the tar...way, way better... which is surprising. At the end of the 2006 Capital Coast Adventure, again courtesy danger_dave: Top of the Takaka Hill on a road ride with the Riders Association of Triumph:

Actually should be "cf." The Collins English Dictionary says: cf. abbrev. for: 1. confer. [Latin: compare]

Thanks Colin.
Does anybody out there have some good advice on a tyre that copes with the Western Australian pea gravel (pisoliths) that are in abundance over here? Do the nobbies fit OK on a 640 Adventure (considering the low mudguard)? |

2003 640 Enduro
SXC Silencer Homemade vented airbox cover Upgraded Chain Guide Homemade Radiator Guards Homemade Carrier Seen here in Adv Touring mode with factory 18L tank, homemade windscreen & pannier racks, TKC80 front & MT70 rear. ![]() For Off Road Mode the 12L tank is put back on, the racks, windscreen & mirrors removed, a 14T sprocket put on & Kenda DOT knobblys fitted. I also just purchased a set of Bridgestone BT45's for roadracing & road touring with the Girlfriend. Cheers Clint PS Colin: watch that MT21 on the back, when they are worn (which only takes about 1000km) they get real square & will let go real quick with no warning if you're getting a bit enthusiastic on the tarmac.

But so far, so good. 1400km and it's not squaring off. Maybe that's got something to do with most of the tarmac running being on Takaka Hill and Queen Charlotte Drive? The TKC80 was hopeless powering out of tight corners, just useless for grip. The MT21 seems to give a brief squirm as you tip in to the corner or come on the power and then either drive or slide: your choice with plenty of feel. Grip in the wet is also a lot better than the TKC80 in the tight stuff.btw hoping to visit Kenepuru Rd this weekend...woo hoo!

Does this make it in cause it's an LC4?
Has all the Rallye fruit - roadbook, ICO,heated grips and runs Desert rear and Baja front. The tyre combo works well off road and reasonably good on road. They are also wearing very well.Expect about 5-6k from rear and 6-7k from front. Shane
