Eek ATGATT: Woah, I get it now!

About 8 minutes into riding in light rain, on a wet highway, with my 3/4 helmet trying to lift off my head from the wind, my eyes squinting from the air rushing around my sunglasses, my face stinging from the rain and road spray, my hands cold and my arms soaked...

... it clicked.

The gear isn't for the fall. It's to keep you in the best possible mental and physical condition to AVOID the fall!

ATGATT 35:12-14
"And Atgatt courted Motgatt, and took her for a wife.
And lo, he compromised with Atgmott, and verily she conceived,
and did bear a son, Notgatt. And Notgatt roamed naked,
and did bequeath his skin to the roads. And he was a wild ass and an outcast,
and was hated through all the land. And his forehead was branded, and he did be
come a sign and a warning to all the people."

Gotta protect the ol' "Command & Control" unit there, bud.

I ever tell you guys about the time I rode through a shower of glass ?

A car ahead of me kicked up a rock (I guess) and took out a big side window on the mini-van in front of me. I got the debris field - a couple hundred quarter-inch blocks of glass, at 70 mph. You think about how rain stings after about 40 or so and wonder if I don't thank my Aerostich, Arai & gauntlet gloves for that day. Nope, no crash, even helped the confused dad and wailing kid clean up the mess.

Last week a cute young waitress told me she though my helmet paint-job was cool and she wanted to ride and "wear cool stuff like that" (pointing to my gray Vanson perf jacket) - Gear is good - and cool gear is better.

ride well

It will take a lot of self-control, but if I could look at a Ducati sitting in my garage for 3 months while I accumulated gear and got into an MSF course then you can too.

I'd hate for your next thread to be in the bad place, and no, I'm not talking about Jo momma.
I can't wait on the training, but I'll agree on the gear.

Ever priced an emergency room visit?

Get the training. Borrow the money. I've offered to defray the cost and I bet others would chip in as well.

Don't kid yourself - it most certainly IS for the fall.

Otherwise I would have been riding around in a pair of shorts and no shirt this past summer in Tucson.

Dude. The gear IS for the fall. Here's proof:

The rest of it is just a happy side effect.

I'll go one better:

I have a TourMaster jacket and pants that I'll donate to our young grasshopper IF they pay postage to OH.

Its a Med blue (faded, but never down) jacket and newer looking Large pants. They fit and they're the OP's.

This is one of the reasons given in the MSF course -- aside from fall protection and shielded-from-the-elements there was also "visibility", and maybe somethging else that I've forgotten.
