I resemble that remark
Hah. I ended up with one of those on saturday when I took a handlebar to the nipple during circle drills, when I tried some extreme lean angles.

On Saturday morning while TwoWheelsGood was sweeping sand

dzrtracin was getting stuck in the sand

Izzat a Dodge pulling a Ford out of the sand?

The crowd got their money's worth, anyway

The beginning of the Saturday trailride was rather chaotic, with riders splitting into two (and then three) separate groups at camp but leaving all at the same time. Suffice it to say that confusion ensued.

In the end more than a couple riders got separated from their group leaders, but I somehow managed to stay with dustjunkie's "Pinyon Loop" group

We rode many sand washes that day, here's what some of the terrain was like

Somewhere beyond the "Wind Caves" and before the "Diablo Dropoff" the carnage began

Here's FlyinGo's "freestyle" video in this same little area:

The first real obstacle we encountered was called the "Diablo Dropoff"

That is the view from the top, here's what it was like going up:

RiverRat getting stuck halfway up

TwoWheelsGood dumping it "close enough" to the top

RiverRat coming within inches of "the edge" on his final attempt

dzrtracin showing us all how it is supposed to be done

After that we rode some more sand washes

And dodged the local "wildlife"

Until we got to where the "mudcaves" are

It was a pretty cool place, definitely worthy of a stop

After that we went down some other wash

I wish I could remember the name

We turned right and then we turned left, and at some point my bike got tired of turning anymore

The roads started getting more and more rocky

And before long we came to some more obstacles

The rocky steps were a challenge

Even the venerable FlyinGo had a little trouble here (captured by Rider914)

And all this was just the lead-up to heart attack hill

Eek Heart-Attack Hill

Like most hills this one feels steeper in person than it looks in the pics

Pictures may be worth a thousand words, but a couple of these videos are worth a chuckle (in retrospect)

RiverRat

TwoWheelsGood

Scruffy

The rest of the day was pretty easy after that

Until Jake started losing sprocket bolts, anyways

There was some waiting involved during the various sprocket bolt fixing sessions

And then more riding

And then more waiting

And then more riding

And in the end the dustjunkiemobile limped its way back to camp, with one of its original sprocket bolts intact

Thanks

Hey Zen, great photos and video. I had a great time riding with everyone. Thanks to all who helped make the weekend happen! My neck is still about an inch shorter thanks to head-butting that rock. I noticed in the video that the rock didn't even budge an inch! I look forward to riding with everyone again!

Back at camp dustjunkie scrounged for sprocket bolts, and a new rear tire

I guess that trials rubber doesn't hold up to Sand-Za Borrego very well

It wasn't lookin' too good for Jake to take neduro's Sunday dirtbike class

dzrtracin's rear tire wasn't lookin' too healthy either, but it had held up better than jakes

My bike was leaking coolant from the weep hole, but I wasn't too worried about that

It was nice to drink and watch the sun set over Uranus

It was great riding with you too, FlyinGo!!!!!

I noticed in Rider914's youtube page somebody posted a comment on that video that said "good thing you were wearing a helmet"

You were an inspiration to all of us taking that 950 where my 450 was skeered to go... I would be honored to ride with you again any time!

Ride report to be continued tomorrow night... still to come:

neduro's Sunday dirtbike class and super-skivies come to the rescue
