DRs kick ass.
As I mentioned before, I got a 93 DR this weekend.
Today I went with some friends on a dirt ride.
We took the FS roads near Granite Falls, Wa (bout 30 minutes from my door) and just started folowing roads, tracks and trails until we couldn't go any further. As I got more confident, they let me lead. Well I get the lead for about 3 miles on a single track that has a small creek every few hundred yards. The DR handled them with aplomb. Until I found the end. I cleared the last turn to find it was about 15-20 feet and then a drop down to a big creek. And the space inbetween was 6" deep muck. I pulled a total noob and grabbed brake and ended up face first in the muck.
The bike suffered a typical bit of damage. The turn signal got bent.
I picked it up and let it sit for a couple minutes while I emptied the mud and leaves from my helmet. The it fired on the first kick.
So we backtracked and took another route. The further back in the ridges and mountains the more washed out and rugged the ride became. Until finally we got to a place hwere the KLR and KTM with me decided it was more than they were up to for that day. The DR did duty as scout, scrambling over the berms and through the washouts to see if it was just a bad section. Did that in several places.
We saw some nice ridge trails where there was a valley on either side. We saw clouds from top and botom. Dark misty pine forest. Fireweed. I miss the mountains covered in fireweed ever since I left Alaska.
mud consumed: 1 mouthful
