Design the Perfect ADV. Bike.
Ok.. for my first thread (keeping fingers crossed) I'd like to get feedback from the crew on design elements of current bikes and get engineering input on future design. Now note, this was not posted in Jo-Mamma and I'd appreciate some actual thought... No picking apart any brand... I want to keep this a pure engineering discussion on what you would like to see in your "perfect" machine. This isn't preference here, let's keep it to "Wings on an airplane" design. With this will eventually come some preference and I'll help guide the discussion along where possible using existing brands as guidelines for weight and performance where appropriate.
The catagories will be:
This includes how the engine should be cooled.. air vs water, number of cylinders/displacement, Carbs or fuel injection, power output and maintenance concerns. It should be assumed that this engine will not be "atomic".. so let's assume it will have to have valves and such... no Sci-fi or unobtainable engineering.
Shaft or chain, transmission layout, clutch (wet or dry)
Travel and weight
Modern vs analog
How much or how little... Variable?
Fluff... just add what ever you like at the end.
After I have 50 relivent posts, I'll switch the conversation to direct design issues.. then we can actually put a header here on what we have all decided would be the best design.
When dealing with people, itís often important to remember 2 things.
1) Never attribute to malice those things that can more adequately be explained by stupidity.
2) Never attribute to genius those things that can be more adequately be explained by fortuitous chance.
