Help Me Plan 5 Days of N.Ga Area Riding
First things first: I am back in the saddle again. After Jason Swinks' passing, I went through about three weeks of fear, then just lack of a desire to ride, but now I'm back on two. I'm still careful, only more so. :
As a schoolteacher in Fulton County, I have Spring Break the first week in April. My girlfriend and I hope to do some camping and hiking at or near Blood Mountain/Suches on Saturday and Sunday. No motorcycling (or perhaps a little, we'll see)- but the main focus will be on enjoying some of the area hiking trails and sights.
Monday the 2nd through Friday the 6th, though, I plan to spend as much time on two wheels as possible. In particular, I want to explore some routes on my SV650 that I have never ridden before. Here's my list- help me add to it and string these things together in a trip-like fashion. Of course, I'd love to have others join me for some riding if you have a free weekday.
-Blue Ridge Parkway: I haven't ridden it yet, but have family friends who live in Clayton, and with whom I plan to visit least a couple of nights between Monday and Friday. (They are flexible, which is a real treat.)
-Cherohala Skyway: rode once when I had the GS500E, and *definitely* want to hit this at least 2x (once each way).
-The Dragon: I am a little scared of this one, as its reputation certainly precedes it, but I've ridden Wolf Pen Gap quite a few times, and have fared well so far. I likely won't have time to ride this again for a while, so definitely want to get it in this week. (I may save it for last or towards the end, unless Friday is too busy a day to ride it.)
-The Loop (129/60/180): I wouldn't mind doing this, as it is amazing riding, but it is last on my list of priorities, as I have ridden it several times.
-Other Area Routes: Enlighten me.: I'm especially interested in good routes near Dillard,GA /Highlands (NC); Hiawasee/Brasstown Bald area (I can't believe I atually RAN up that sucker several times in high school:eek: ) If you know of any good roads into the Carolinas (North or South, you choose) within a couple of hours of Clayton, those would be fun to traverse.
So- tell me about all of those roads that I just "have to ride", and help me string these together in a sensible fashion. I definitely plan to have a ride report and lots of pictures from the journey!
"A skittish motorbike with a touch of blood in it is better than all of the riding animals on the earth- because of its logical extension of our faculties, and the hint, the provocation to excess conferred by its honeyed, untiring smoothness."
