SA ADV Riders - Melrose May 19th
OK, Pete suggested starting a new thread for this ride so here it is.
The Mount Remarkable Hotel (AKA "the bottom pub") is where we'll eat/drink. Accomodation is at the pub or right across the road. The pub has 4 or 5 rooms and the Caravan Park is just down a side street across the road. The office would be less than 100 metres away. The Caravan Park has a bunkhouse, cabins or camping. The Pub's number is 8666 2119 The Caravan Pk is 8666 2060 For those who may be interested, I could lead some sort of ride in the area depending on if people still want to after getting there. Goldfinger has ridden there before, what is your opinion Paul, up to the top of the range on the Bridle Track or reverse the way we came back to Melrose on the AMTRA ride, Bakery stop at Stone Hut and return?? We could kick off the ride early PM for 2 to 3 hours. BTW, premium fuel is not available in Melrose. The nearest would be Wirrabara (AM Sat only), Gladstone (7 days) or on the highway opposite Port Pirie (7 days). I'm unsure about Wilmington's hours, it is to the north but is the closest option. I'm not sure if I will be staying the night but will stay for a meal and a couple of cold ones. Post up if you're keen, sometimes the pub is very busy for meals so we may need to give them some advance notice. So far; fethers kipo + a couple or 3 goldfinger + 2 or 4 The Misinformant dogsbody 1nut masterbrewer all balls525 wayne640 Where2 charliew + 2 more Pirie riders, Rick on a 525 (very curious about Adv's) and Derek on a 640Adv. Unconfirmed in this thread; Bicks Beemerboff work750 The Doc

Hi Fethers, are you on 640 or 525, riding there or did I see you might trailer? I might do your idea come for a 2 - 3 hr PM squirt stay for tea and head home. If I do that I will trailer so not riding home in the dark.
Might get The Doc to join in. Cheers Kipo |

I will be there but dunno what/how/when the Adelaide boys are leaving to travel up. I'd be happy be for a little jolly in the PM but so long as it aint to hard as I'll be on the ADV with a dodgy wrist.
Fethers I plan not to fall off 18 times like the last time we went out. The Misinformant screwed with this post 05-10-2007 at 06:02 PM |

Yunta-Hawker
Sorry for temporarily hijacking this thread, but can one of you SA guys tell me how the dirt roads are between Yunta and Hawker? Riding through early next month and it looks like there's a turnoff about 50 kms north of Yunta on the Lake Frome road, then a fork about 40 ks later at Old Baratta with the right turn heading via Holowilena, then not sure which way...
thanks Levon ps PM me to make sure the hijack is short-lived

Hi Fethers, looking foward to meeting you and I really appreciate your offer to show us around. Is the Bridle Track do-able on the bigger bikes? Cheers

Count me in
G'day Fethers, I've got my pass out,
so i'll be there (as long as I finish "the cooks list" this weekend), going riding with Andy first thing in thing tomorrow morning for more Finke practice on the woops out Palmer way . As i said on the phone the other day, I'm planning on trying to get away Friday evening and camp at the caravan park, so at least i'll be able to practice for Saturday night. I'll keep in touch.Cheers All balls 525 |

Count me in for a meal at the pub Saturday evening. I'll be camping at the Melrose caravan park. Do we have any arrangements for meeting Saturday morning to travel up there as a small group??

I'm confirmed for this weekend. I will be camping, but count me in for a meal at the pub on Saturday night.
Hope the weather is ok, not much fun putting up a tent in the rain, but after an evening in the pub I'm sure I won't have any trouble sleeping. |
