Woke up a little too early Saturday morning, still a little dark and cold so I crawled back into the tent until the sun came up. Slept pretty well despite the airbraking of the semi's coming down Hwy 360 close to my little ghost town accomodations. Strange, didn't hear any ghosts.

Sunrise

Checked out some sites on my way out of "town"...

The goal for today was Beatty, NV. Yesterday I rode exactly 200 miles and was determined to do about the same today. That way my last day of riding/camping will be a shorty.

Heading towards the Candelara mine...

Cool sandy wash. Looked for snakes here while I ate a Clif Bar.

This was all I got

More old mining towns

Across a playa

Trail turned kinda faint thru here and I did a little bushwhacking

Ended up here, right off the road that goes to Silver Peak, NV

At this point I was supposed to head more due south up into the Argentite Canyon, but my water situation was less than stellar and my gas sitch was just okay, so I bailed on the canyon and rode down into Silver Peak with plans to head towards Goldfield to gas up.

In Silver Peak I was mainly just in search of water, but bumped into a guy named Joe Dunn at the Chemetall Foote company when I walked in the front door of their office. He not only set me up with total refills of my two Camelbak bladders but topped off my bike for NO CHARGE! Thanks heaps Joe!

There's not much in Silver Peak but if you ever get into a pinch in the NV desert you could count on Joe to help you out. He's also a member of the SAR team for the area come to find out as he told me about the mex2can rider that needed hauled out of Argentite Canyon a few weeks prior.

Silver Peak

I picked up GPS tracks outside of Silver Peak again and promptly jumped off of the gravel road and back into the real dirt. More cool canyons and such and eventually I ended up here:

Would've loved to have stopped in for a beer at the saloon that appeared to be open (right across from the brothel, didn't look open) but I was on a mission. Onward.

Must be an interesting chap that lives here:

All along "his" road were interesting things:

Started running into the race course outside of Goldfield...

Took a breather, had a microwave sandwich pocket thingie and a Mountain Dew...

Long lonely road somewhere out there...

Coming into Goldfield:

Onward towards Beatty, Highway 95 to the left of the trail:

Another long lonely road:

Heading towards Death Valley:

more tomorrow...

It looks like one hell of a desert trip! Are you heading back the same route?

That is one long dusty ride just to go to the "Chicken Ranch"! What was the significance of going to Pahrump?

Living in NV, i find this entire trip both puzzling and amazing? What is your motivator? I have done much ghost town hunting in the past, but I am totally fascinated by your route. You are a brave soul...Nevada can be a harsh environment for sure. Where was the "interesting chap's" home??

For those of you wondering what the hell I'm doing this for, I am a chiropractor and I do vacation relief for docs that need to be out of their offices. I trucked the bike to Reno (where I used to live and some of my family still lives) and started the ride from there. Heading back on Saturday and it looks like rain!

The "castle" was on Hardluck City Road outside of Goldfield if my memory serves me correctly.

Couple more pics before I run to work this morning:

Now continuing south towards Beatty and a spot for the night.

Part of an old racecourse I'm sure. Whooped out and lots of washes to cross, but not soft like the more recently used course:

I got to Death Valley and had a 4 bar cell signal, believe it or not. Called the wife.

Rhyolite NV

Into Beatty for gas and chow, and chow I got. HUGE fish tacos at the Ensenada!

A nice easy ride to my camp spot would've been nice... but no... more racecourse.

Kinda made my stomach crazy.

Camp and smoke in the distance from the Big Bear Lake fire.

more later...

Slept great out there alongside the Amargosa River. Woke up early, whipped up some Tully's French Roast and some Mountain House scrambled eggs with bacon (eewww!) and hit the trail again just before 8am. Short, uneventful day I was hoping...

More of this crap for awhile to start the day...

Then some more rocks.

Sweet.

There was just enough terrain change to keep it interesting out here. Then this...for miilllleeeessss.

Saw no wildlife.

Then this, about 7 miles outside of town.

Got it back on and it wouldn't hold air. I was hot and all out of CO2's (still had my crappy little pump) but I decided to ride it flat to the highway.

I wasn't here 5 minutes and a kid on a TTR pulls up and asks if I've got someone coming to help. Told him no and he told me he'd go get his dad with a truck. Kid... you rock.

No tie downs. And I promptly gave myself a bloody nose picking desert goobers.

One way to arrive in Pahrump, just not the preferred way...

This dude was open on SUNDAY!!!!!

Nice guy, not cheap, but got a free t-shirt out of the deal.

And my accomodations for the week. Luckily I don't gamble.

And they've got great parking...

Heading back tomorrow, hope the weather holds.
