Western States tour: Santa Fe to Seattle and other parts
So I'm a bit behind in starting this thread as I've actually been in Seattle for two weeks now, but I thought I'd share my trip with the ADVers. I'll let you know that I'm not the prolific photog that some of you are so I apologize if it's a bit sparse, but I digress...
I'll add more posts and pics a bit at a time as time allows. The motivation for the trip: an old housemate who used to watch my dog every time I left town for about 5 years was going to Hawaii, and she called in a favor. It was my turn to dogsit. THe only catch: I'm in Santa Fe, and the dog is in Seattle! Sounds like an excuse to pack up the new Adventure and go for a road trip... As it happens I'm also between jobs so it worked out nicely as far as timing goes.
Day one, 9/8/07: Santa Fe, NM to Rock Springs, WY. ~650 miles

Preparing to ride off from Home Base as the sun rises:
Somehow I managed to pack pretty lightly: tent/bag, layers and food in the sidebags, tools and beer in the topcase, and little bits in the tankbag. The only things "hanging off" are my Thermarest and the sandals. Even if there was room for the sandals they'd still be on the outside Gassed up and caffeinated, it was time for an early morning high speed run up US 285.
Since Rock Springs was my destination for the day I kept up the pace, not stopping for a lot of pics. 285 is not the most scenic or twisty of roads, but still enjoyable. Then the first pass of the day:
Once you get to Poncha Pass, things start to get prettier, and the 14ers start peeking out in the distance:
Stay tuned for Independence Pass.
