So the title doesn't make any sense but I figured this deserves its own thread but isn't meaty enough to make it in Ride Reports.
Out in the Parking Lot I found this. ![]() Yep! Thats snow!!! I layered up and headed north where I met KLRdave and Tom327Cat in Palmer for short ride around Coyote Lake and where ever else we wanted to go. Little did we know... We would soon learn an important lesson. ![]() Yesterday Beezer showed me around this area. There are some neat switchbacks with views along with slick muddy trails that will lure you in untill its so slippery you fall down. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is the Sunday crew at the trail head ready to go. ![]() What I'm told is that this used to be an old Coal Strip Mine. We followed an old haul road up and around a ridge. Where we found this place. ![]() ![]() I figured it would be a neat place to play around in so I rode around to the right. No problem, a little water/mud. But... On the return trip I took a different line. Figured I'd splash through some water on the way back. It didn't take long for me to figure out I was going to learn something today ![]() ![]() Oh My Goodness was that water cold! And wet. It was the wetest water I've ever seen. I can't remember how long it took to get it out. But I was lucky to have two helpers that weren't afraid to get their feet wet and dirty. Truer riding partners a man could not have. ![]() It took a piece of shot up plywood, the bullet holes helped break the suction of the mud, an old tire, a bunch of rocks, and a borrowed tow rope. OH yeah, lots of lifting, grunting and mud too. The victorious Adventure Riders Salute you. ![]() How am I going to explain that picture to my Mom ![]() About 10 minutes after we got it unstuck two quads with tow ropes and winches showed up. ![]() Bummer ![]() We returned the rope to a family who were collecting plant fossils for a walk way and headed out. ![]() ![]() Thanks again for one last great ride of the season. And for helping me get my bike unstuck. Hopefully I'll be able to return the favor someday. When its a little warmer ![]() I know KLRdave has some more pics. Maybe he'll post em up. Brian |

About half way through the operation Dave said something about how he was going to bring extra boots but forgot, or didn't bother or something.
![]() Its a good idea. My feet were pretty cold, and dirty, by the time I got home. Brian |
