Big and Tall Equipment Reference
Hello Folks,
The longer you hang out at this great site, you can't help but notice trends in threads and common questions cropping up month after month. Being 6'8" tall, I've noticed this with fellow advrider's looking for gear that fits big and tall riders. To help out, I've decided to start a thread where I will maintain a curated list of gear that big and tall folks have had good luck with! I am not limiting this to any particular height, size, weight, etc. I am also not limiting this to touring gear, motocross gear, or road racing gear. I've given some thought to the information I want to have on this list. It's a trade off between a useful list, and having too much information to maintain. This is a work in progress and we can collect more information if people find it useful. But for now, if you are big and/or tall and have gear you've found worth recommending, send me a reply to this thread and I'll add it to the list. Here is what I am looking for. Model: ie Balistic, Darien Available Sizes: if known, provide the size of the product you bought and if possible the available sizes Custom Alternations: Will the vendor do custom alternations? Y/N Buyer info: your height, weight, chest, shoe size, whatever is useful information for the product. This is simply meant to help buyers size up the gear and get a rough idea if a product is in the appropriate size range. As we've all seen a XXL in one company is different than in another. Comments: Anything else worth mentioning. And if you find this useful, please let me know! Jesse THE LIST

I'll be watching this as well...my buddy runs 6'8 400 lbs...NOTHING for him in the market..Aerostich is the closest but they...although better than most..still only cater to the XXL crowd. A 5X Joe Rocket fits him..if he wants to call it a short sleave jacket ![]()

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I can't do this without your input as well! Keep the recommendations coming. I hope someone starts a thread for the vertically challenged as well! Both extreme body types have oddly similar problems finding gear and bikes!
Bonebag, check out my Racing Suit/Trackday Vanson suit thing. Your friend can always go with a custom made leather jacket. It took me 3 hours to do all the measurements for the full suit. It was a pain in the @$$ but when the suit was delivered it fit. I am sure the same is true for the jackets. Of course, it isn't cheap.

Thanks!
Great start JW and thanks a bunch for doin' it! I'll be watching also.
JACKET: Make: Motoport (Cycleport) Model: Air Mesh Kevlar Waist Cut Available Sizes: s- xxxxl Custom Alterations: Yes Buyer Info: 6'6", 230 lbs. 46 chest, 36 waist, 37 inseam, 37 sleeve Comments: Love the jacket! Huge range of comfort from 100 degrees to 38 degrees so far. With no liner it is cooler than wearing just a t-shirt. With rain/wind liner comfortable in rain and temps down to 50. With quilted liner and rain/wind liner down to 38 (with long sleeve "technical gear" type t-shirt underneath. Had to get it custom made. Long story but short version: It took a couple of returns but finally got it right and it works awesome! Also bought the Air Mesh Kevlar Pants with the wind/rain liner. Had them custom made and love 'em too! Thanks again for the thread JW! |

I have personal experience with three companies able to fit my 6' 3", 230lb frame.
Fox Creek Leather. Top quality leather jackets, pants, and yes, chaps. Jackets listed up to size 60 long, pants waist to 54", will do custom fitting. Everyone knows Motoport will custom make you any size. I got a perfect fitting jacket first time following measuring instructions, and perfect fitting kevlar jeans by sending in a pair to copy. Brosh in Israel was very happy to custom make a Coolmax jacket with longer sleeves. Service was very quick and friendly. |

After being frustrated for years trying to find gear that fit I finally hit the jackpot.
Rukka Air jacket and pants, no special order or custom work necessary, fits great ( 6'4", 228# on a 67 year old tired frame). They have American and European sizes, go to a stocking dealer to try on.( Premier Moto Gear in Albany, Or.) Boots are Sidi SRS they have sizes that will fit Shaq. Still looking for MX pants for inside the boot wear? This stuff is pricey, but a one time investment. You only live once go for it! 950 adv. bent, dirty and ridden |

UK: try GLF Accessories in Flitwick.
Held and MJK gear to 7XL off the peg, and MJK made to measure. They do the show circuit and mail order.

I'm a pretty outspoken goon at 6'7" and a slim 220 right now and love this idea.
I'd add to the list the BMW Rallye 2 Pro in addition to the Cycleport stuff. I personally have the Rallye 2 Pro, Cycleport Air Mesh kevlar, and a set of Vanson leathers (Volante). I could not have done better with any of this gear. For a full review of the Rallye 2 Pro and Cycleport suits, search on my screen name. Vanson needs no reiview. Well done jwalters for doing this.

For motorcycle-specific wear, I've been very happy with FirstGear. Not everything they make comes in tall sizes, but then I only need one shell/cold-weather jacket and pants, and one mesh jacket. 20,000 miles plus on my Kilimanjaro suit; always dry except some water getting blown up over my relatively short boots in really heavy rain.
P.S. 6'4", 185 lbs.
